luke_m
I recently bought a F100 on ebay and everything seems to work fine except for the film advance mode selector. In multiple exposure mode it seems to shoot continuous-silent; in single frame mode it goes into self-timer; in continuous it shoots single; in continuous- silent it shoots continuous (or continuous-silent); and in self- timer mode, it shoots continuous. I guess I could work around this, but I'm worried that it may just decide to switch around again when I'm not looking. Have any of you had this problem? What did you do? Is it a serious enough problem that needs to be paid to be fixed? (the warranty's expired.) There have been some things said about this (see http://www.camerahobby.com/Review-F100.htm), so I'm guessing its not a problem unique to my unit. The F100 I have is the "older" model - i.e. the one with the triangular rewind fork. Did Nikon fix film advance problem when they replaced all the triangular forks with rectangular ones? Thanks for your help,
Michael R Freeman
Luke, I have heard of this problem before (on Nikonians.org). In his case the camera would fire in self timer mode, regardless of the position of the film advance selector. Unfortunately this needs to be repaired, as it's not likely going to get better or fix itself, and it is more than likely to get worse or fail altogether and stick you with a single advance mode. cliff_lesergent
Nikon Canada just charged C$309 (about US$260) for this repair on one of my F100's.
dick_van_nostrand
It usually involves replacing a computer chip and about $250-$260 for the chip plus clean, lube and check sounds about right. My five-year-old F-100 is due for that service as the multiple exposure setting has become the self timer.
ShunCheung
Sounds like yet another case that repair cost is approaching the current used value, or replacement cost, for that camera.
