chris_unsworth
I have lots of digital phots already stored on cd-r's. Photoshop wants me to load them to the hard disk and then 'move' them to a cd before it will thumb nail and find them on 'removeable storage'. Does anyone know of any way that my existing cd's can be recognised directly.
Ed_Ingold
Photoshop optionally saves a thumbnail embedded in the image, which can be recognized whether on a CD or a hard drive. Perhaps this was not done. Adobe Bridge (CS2) will create thumbnails from any compatible image and save it in the same directory (impossible with a CDR) or in a default directory buried deeply in the documents folder. If you have a legal copy of Photoshop 4, you can upgrade to CS2 for $150. The Smithsonian Institution might be interested in your old copy. john kissane
Just a guess but I think Chris probably means PS Elements 4.0 not PS.
kelly_flanigan1
Photoshop 3.0 and 4.0 will open up file format variants abandoned by Adobe, that new 5.5 ,7, CS and CS2 will not. Here we still maintain working copies of older software, to move forward older files abandoned by newer versions of Photoshop. If you dont deal with the public's older files, or live in a bubble, or are new to Photoshop, this matter is not really important. :) .Some of these variants have been dropped along the way as "Photoshop is improved". :)

godfrey
Kelly, I don't know what you mean. I just did some reorganization of my archives and reviewed some of the Photoshop work I did in the 1996-1999 time period ... Photoshop 2-2.5 era? PS CS2 and Bridge had no problem opening all of them.
