yann_r.
... when the photo is a part or a view of a village or even a house. Architecture or something else?
Please have a look here or here and tell me what you'd choose. mattvardy
It is difficult sometimes eh Yann?!
Aside from Architecture...
I would say the first one might merge into the Street category, and perhaps the second could pass as Abstract? Maybe there is no definite right or wrong.
Regards,
a. a.
I would choose the first one as travel (if it somehow has special characteristics of the local/place) and the second one as street. If it had more graphical elements then abstract could've been a very good choice. Cheers Misha
alexguerra
I miss the "uncategorized" category; used to be the one I used most. Answering your question Yann, I would put the first one under street or architecture and the second under architecture or abstract. guyscrivner
If one wishes to participate at a serious level the art and craft of photography it would not hurt to spend a small amount of time in the study of its heritage. Numerous resources are as close as the click of a mouse. For instance, if you want to know what Street Photography is then you could start here. Architectural photography would emphasize the specific features of a structure for the purpose of instruction, to feature its artistic value, or to illustrate its compatilbility with its surroundings.
The category to which you assign your photos has as much to do about the purpose for which they were taken as the subject matter. For instance, your photo of the structure may have a specific use and would be placed under the Documentary caegory. On the other hand it might be a place of interest to tourists and could go under the Travel category.
Of course, you would think that PN would step forward and help define the categories so there would not be so much confusion. neild
I sometimes put things in fine art because I've no idea on what else to use - abstract is wrong, and everything else is too specific so that if it doesn't fit, then it really doesn't fit. Nobody seems to know exactly what fine art actually is (I know I don't!) so I stick ambiguous choices there. I would welcome having more of a choice. tholte
"If one wishes to participate at a serious level the art and craft of photography it would not hurt to spend a small amount of time in the study of its heritage." Thanks for enlightening us Guy, never knew what I was missing.
yann_r.
Thank you all for replying,
I agree for 'travel' for the first one cause this photo represents quite well the place I live in and surely doesn't look like places where the majority of PN members lives.
It's less easy for the second one: not really an architectural detail, not a 'street' shot, 'abstract' could have been suitable 1) in a more graphic way (right M.H.) 2) with a different title. 'Fine art'? Not sure neither...
James, Nudes? why not, I could get some thousands of 3s... But my shots aren't ratable : ))
Guy, well... quite a difficult reply to understand for my poor English knowledges. But, I think that I've understood you. I wasn't looking for the sense of photography categories but more simply for the more suitable category available on photo.net.
