Nikon FG Metering System Intermittent Problems

First...Turn off your caps lock key. Typing in all caps is the internet equivalent of yelling.

Now, I would say there is a possiblilty that the meter in your FG may have justed died. If it

was intermittently not working and now doesn't work at all, it may have finally failed

completely. It may only be dirty contacts in the battery compartment, so take the batteries

out, clean the contacts with a cotton swab, looking for dirt or corrosion and put the

batteries back in, making sure they BOTH are in the right direction.

If none of that works, then it's probably time to pick up another one. They can go under

$100 on the auction sites all the time. I think even the mail order sites have them, such as

B&H or KEH or Adorama for around $100.

Check the battery voltage after cleaning all the contacts too. The voltage that they should be is usually written on the battery itself. When they're new, they'll be a little above it and with use they will be a little lower than that amount. Should be close and if not, try new ones.

Take out the battery, confirm it's voltage, but also take a pencil eraser and clean the small tab contact inside the battery holder in the camera and on the battery cap. I have had these built up a coating and it will cause the same thing. Another problem is taking the camera out into the cold and bringing it inside. Condensation can play havoc with a camera.
