andy_foggo
I've been shooting wildlife for a while now using the Sigma 300 f/4 APO Macro on my Dynax 7, with and without a 1.4 EX converter, and am finally growing tired of the slow shutter speeds. Having just bought the Dynax 7D I'm now thinking of a better lens for nature work, ideally I'd like to end up with a 600mm f/4 equivalent (1.5 x CCD crop factor taken into consideration). 300 2.8s work out at 630 4s with digital and 1.4 EX, but what would people recommend? Options in Minolta fit are limited, but older Tamrons are an option, tell me what you think please!ATBAF
michael_hohner
Minolta AF 300/2.8 APO G (D) SSM with Minolta 1.4x APO (D) converter.
george_rhodes
I read a fairly recent review by Popular Photography that gave the new Minolta 300mm f2.8 SSM a relatively unimpressive performance rating. I'm not sure what to make of this. Years ago, P.P. also gave the Canon 400mm f5.6 a similar relatively low performance rating, but users of the lens, including famed Arthur Morris, claimed the lens exhibited excellent performance. Does anyone have personal experience with the new Konica/Minolta SSM 300mm f2.8? If so, what is your opinion? Has anyone seen another evaluation of the lens? jemini_joseph
Sigma 300/2.8.. That's very nice. I'm not sure if this has HSM for Minolta versions..
pontus_gustavsson
I wouldn't buy a f/2.8 for just one stop faster shutter speed. It's big, heavy and expensive. With a DSLR you can just crank up the ISO setting one stop. Shallow DoF, bright viewfinder, fast AF and ability to retain AF with extender is more important for me. yakim_peled1
I'd also consider the Minolta 400/4.5.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.
