jonas_yip1
I've been considering getting an SL66, but on the whole the Rollei line is unfamiliar to me. I actually am just wondering whether a front body cap for a SLX/6000 series camera will fit on an SL66. Alternately, does anybody know some place that carries things like an SL66 body cap (seem to be hard to find)? thanks, j
fred_mueggelhopper
SLX/6000 series caps and lenses are not interchangeable. You can find SL66 cap at HECphoto.com. Hadley Chamberlain has lots of Rollei SLR stuff and knows and uses them as well. The SL66 is a nice camera with amazing close up capabilities. jonas_yip1
Thanks for the info. I checked HECphoto.com earlier and didn't see any listed, but I've sent them an email to see. Thanks,j
helenbach
Try eBay. Among the regular SL 66 sellers there is a guy called guuse2 who has an excellent reputation and could probably sell you a body cap. It seems a bit bizarre though - selecting a camera system on the basis of the availability of a body cap. I never use mine (the body cap, that is. I use my SL 66 SE's regularly). What is it about the SL 66 system that appeals to you? Best, Helen
jorge_jimenez1
Fred is incorrect. The SL66 and the SLX lens caps are the same. The body caps on the other hand are not the same. Both the SL66 and the SLX/6000 use the Bay Vi and the caps fit it.
helenbach
I understood Fred to say that the body caps and the lenses (not the lens caps) were not interchangeable between the SL 66 and the 600x series - which is true. Best, Helen
jonas_yip1
I'm not actually choosing the camera based on the availability of the body cap... but I do a lot with homemade lenses, and oftentimes I'll use a drilled out body cap to hold the lens. I know that Rollei has blank lens boards for the SL66 for exactly this purpose... but body caps are usually cheaper and sufficient for my needs. One of the main appeals of the SL66 for me is the fact that it has a focal plane shutter and the bellow focussing which makes lens hacking much easier. And I like the tilt. And overall it seems like a well thought out camera. I know at least one person who reads this will think "buy a camera that takes Zeiss lenses and then put some crappy homemade glass on it?!" Well, yes, that's what I'm gonna do. But I've got plenty of nice glass, too, on other cameras! j
helenbach
That's a very good reason to buy an SL 66. I have adapters for a few lenses, but I picked one of the mounts up on eBay and bought one from HEC. Remember that the SL 66 body has a Bay VI around the lens mount so that you can mount a reversed lens. That means that you can also mount a Bay VI filter directly onto the body. That means that you could get a Bay VI filter in poor condition off eBay and replace the glass with a blank. I've just tried it and it works - and the filter bayonet is better made than the plastic body cap bayonet. If you tell us what you really want in the first place... jonas_yip1
Helen, that there's some brilliant thinking, or at the very least quite sensible. That may very well do the trick...
thomas_diekwisch1
I agree with Helen and Jonas: the SL66 is a lens hacker's dream.
