The 35mm Camera Lives ...

Recommended Posts

Interesting, I received today a HUGE catalog from B&H exclusively for

35mm FILM cameras and accessories. While half the book was the

filters, tripods, etc., I still find it amazing that they went to the

expense of printing and mailing (with manufacturer co-op dollars, no

doubt) so impressive a catalog of this nature. The Leica M7, MP and

R8, R9 pages are certainly interesting. If you have to ask the price ...

Having owned several M models, still own an M3 and M4-P, I shoot mine all the time.

What gets my attention is Nikon's F6, they are still going where most companies fear

to tread....analog.

If you have to ask the price...

...just flip over to the Voigtlander pages. :)

Seriously...I swear B&H must lose money on me. I spend about $500/year there, and keep getting these huge catalogs for all of the different photo gear they sell. Sure is fun for "wishbooking", though.

Putting those catalogues together is a major business for some companies. Many years ago, I worked with one in the UK that produced a 500 odd page catalogue of industrial equipment and, because of the way they charged for inclusion, they made a small profit of every copy they sent out. THEN they made a profit on the sales. Nice work if you can get it!

B&H is a great outfit. They really know how to sell stuff! I did try Adorama for my last film order and was greatly disappointed...

About the catalouge..did anyone mourn the loss of the Contax? If that new Zeiss Ikon RF doesn't make it to market soon..how are we going to dream about using a modern film camera with Carl Zeiss T* lenses? If Zeiss can make M mount lenses, why can't they make Nikon mount lenses? Too much dreaming...and that Contarex...

I got mine a few weeks ago actually. It's a very nice catalog for wishlists and sometimes looking through a physical book is better than just browsing the website. I mean, there are so many things I'd never look up online that I become aware of thanks to this catalog.

Great stuff. :)
