P67II and 300mm EDIF plus tc's crops.

For anybody that is interested.

Gees, I think this is one of the sharpest lenses I have ever used

with film. Its right up there with the Mamiya 7. Even with the 1.4x

there is little or no image degradation. With the 2x there is some,

but not that bad.

Test crops at my favorite testing grounds with E100G.

Went out today in the blistering heat to do some photography at the

local nature preserve. Tough going, as its sort of dead in the

summer. Also i was having a hard time focusing, especially with

sweat on my glasses and in my eyes. I did manage to get this one.

Its with one of my TC's cant remember which though. Think its the

1.4 just by the looks of it, but I am almost positive I shot that

photo with the 2X. If so its pretty sharp. Oh well. I did not keep

notes. Next time I will. Shot this one with NPH 400. This was hand

held.

Hi Troy:

I have this lens too and my experience is the same as yours; the lens is amazingly sharp even at F4 and the 2x doesn't degrade sharpness too much. What tripod/head are you using? I do have "shutter vibration" problems occasionaly with the 300 + 2x at slower speeds.

Not good enough at this point. That was a Bogen with a Ball head. Since I shoot LF too and have a 8x10 coming a new tripod is in order. I think I am going to get a Giottos CF that will handle 26# and a decent head.

Yes I shot several 2x shots, and IMO you need to shoot it at F8 min which is really too dark. The inlet shots were really bright so i got away with it with iso100 film but my F11 shot was questionable and F16 had shutter shake. Yesterday with 400 film at the nature preserve I managed to sneak out a few shots, but it was iffy.

Mirror pre-fired on these? You'll like the sturdy tripod comparatively. FWIW: Zeiss

recommends mirror pre-fired before any shot whenever possible. They claim a

consistent 140% sharpness improvement over non-mlu process, assuming slower

shutter speeds. Granted it was a Hassy based tip but I figure it would help even in

6x7 to 35mm.

Troy:

Let us know how the Giottos works out. I am in the market for a new CF tripod and head. I use a Gitzo 1376M offset ball head; although I like some aspects of the head, the design puts the camera on what looks like a "diving board". For most cameras, it's not a problem, but for the 67 I'm not so sure.

I thought I was out of my mind paying this much for a lens, but I was not dissapointed. Anything that is this sharp with a 1.4x or even a 2x is well worth the $. This is a keeper for sure.

Any 2x I have ever used on a 35mm system has been very poor in comparison.
