bobatkins
"<em>SHANGHAI (Reuters) - Hewlett-Packard Co., the world's number two PC maker, said on Tuesday it will stop selling digital cameras in Asia as it pursues business areas with greater potential in the region. <p> HP, which last month announced plans to cut 10 percent of its workforce under new Chief Executive Mark Hurd, is leaving the digital camera business in Asia "to focus its investment around home photo printing, which is a high-growth area in the region," the company said in a statement to Reuters.</em>" <p> <a href="http://in.today.reuters.com/news/newsArticle.aspx? type=technologyNews&storyID=2005-08- 02T143912Z_01_NOOTR_RTRJONC_0_India-211319-1.xml">Link to full story</a>
alan_chan4
Not surprisingly, the asian markets are all Japanese and Korean only. The designs are very important in these regions, and quite frankly, American designs aren't that attractive (not just cameras).

oskar_ojala
Kids in Korea are apparently buying more phonecameras than digicams, so I bet the market for HP digicams isn't particularly lucrative there, considering the tough competition from local digicams and camphones. rmdavis
I do have to wonder why so many digital cameras, event he point and shoots, are so badly designed (in terms of aesthetics, not necessariyl functionality). When you think back to the Kodak Bantam or Art Deco Box cameras, those things were really beautiful.
mike_elek
yes, but Kodak also gave us the hideous Kodak 35 RF ...
lili_elrod
Oskar is right, the phonecam is taking a big bite out of the dedicated digicam market. The fact that most of the HP cameras are Ugly Boxes without the desing charm of the old box cameras doesn't help either.
