WPJA Acceptance

Recommended Posts

This morning I recieved an email notifying me of my acceptance into

WPJA directory (www.wpja.com)

I'm so excited!!!!

for those that are interested in the process (as I was before i

joined) here's how it went.

I submitted my site (old layout) twice. Once in Dec and again in Feb.

Then I realized that I didn't have my photo on my site, so I added

that, changed my layout once again, edited my photos (with the help of

another generous photographer) from 75 down to 35 and resubmitted this

past Monday (4/3/06). The rest is history.

If anyone has any other questions, please let me know, i'd be happy to

help..

Congratulations! Thanks for sharing the process. I was wondering how fast they got back to applicants...and that seems very fast! I have applied twice, the last time about a month ago. I think one of the major factors last time was the problem my website was having in Safari and website quality is one of their criteria. Now that I've fixed that I'm trying to decide if I should apply again or wait until I completely redo my site. Congrats again...well deserved!

Jennifer, thank you!

I think the acceptance rate will vary at different times during the year. I know another photographer who applied over a month ago and just heard back about her acceptance a few days ago. I've also read on various forums that it can take anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 weeks. But if you don't hear back from there, really take a look at your images and your presentation. You don't have to have a lot of photos or fancy all flash site. Just really focus on photojournalism and professionalism. I say keep applying if you really want to be a part of the directory. It has such great benefits to your business.

Congrads - Like your work as featured on the old website. It must look even better now. Grin your old site gave me some food for thought - been trying to "understand" the photojournalistic wedding approach - thanks for the sharing.

A question on the web site requirements - I seem to get the feeling that a unique looks is wanted. In process of doing my first website, if you could spare some pointers I'd be most appreciative.

Ellery,

Thank you for the kind comments. In response to your request, I can only speak about my particular experience. There are 3 things i did differently this time around, and I'm not sure which of those things is what mattered to wpja. I would recommend creating a site that is clean, easy to navigate, featuring your best work with an emphasis on photojournalism. if you are good with html, then you can handle it yourself, but if not, i would recommend highering a professional. also, take a look at the sites currently on the wpja and study their layouts. that will give you an idea. i hope this helps. let me know if there is anything else.

thank you.
