Mike Gammill
Talked my Dad into digging out his Voighlander Vitessa that he bought new in 1955. Everything still works as it should, surprisingly even the old selenium cell meter seems to be spot on. We shared a roll of Plus-x in the camera. I will post if I have interesting results. BTW, this is the one with the f2 Ultron lens. Any other experiences with this camera.
titrisol
A vitessa? WOW! one of the most BEAUTIFUL cameras ever built! The Ultron is a fantastic lens! Good luck!
kaiblanke
I always wanted one, esp. the ones with the Ultron lens, but the price put me off. It is a great camera with a unique appearance, take good care of it!
miztli
?Congratulations on your finding! That is one of my desired cameras but the price is always too high. Please share the pictures you took.
titrisol
Look at this article from Stephen Gandy http://www.cameraquest.com/voitvitl.htm Very illustrative.
Mike Gammill
I have a lot of memories of my father using this camera. It was the only 35mm he had until be bought a Mamiya Sekor 1000TL in 1968. He let me take the Voightlander to the '68 Homecoming parade (prefocused and exposure preset) and I got some fairly good pictures. I'll bet I was the only 11 year old using such a fancy camera at that parade. If I ever find any of those pictures, I'll be sure to post, but it might take a while--after all, they've had 37 years to get lost. canfred
Hi Mike , its Voigtlander and yes the ultron is the lens to go for. In fact it is as good as the contempory Summicron. I have two of these The last one is the model T ( no bellows ) sadly that one only came with the Color Scopar. Enjoy!
marco_vera1
I just took the Vitessa L for a "ride" this Sunday. It was the first time since I had adjusted the RF and collimated the Ultron. What a suprise! The negatives (all i have right now) are wonderfully contrasty and sharp. Ran a roll of Ilford FP4 through it and if I get a chance I will print on Thursday..... Not only is this one of the best looking folders ever, I takes wonderful pictures! One small quirk that I have not yet figured out is the film advance that doesn't allways happen when I open the barn doors....unless I manually move the locking tab to the locked position for the first shot..then it proceeds without hesitation 'till I fold her up again. So ocasionally I will get a double exposure. Is this suppose to happen ? Is that little locking tab suppose to be spring loaded? Thanks Marco

canfred
Hi Marco , yes the flat locking slider below the barndoors is spring loaded. No big deal once you know just move it manually.
Mike Gammill
The advance/door problem does crop up once in a while-- Some of my Dad's negatives from the late 1950's show this once in a while. Today I'm going to develop the film I shot in it a couple days ago. When my father used the camera he shot mostly Plus-X and Kodachrome. In later years he used some Tri-X and the occasional roll of Panatomic-X. He also used what appears to be motion picture stock: Eastman 25. Ever heard of it? Anyway, I will post when I develop my negatives.
Mike Gammill
Definitely right about the door/advance issue, Marco. I developed the roll shot in the Voightlander and the frames were perfectly spaced. My father and I had thought for many years that the camera had a problem. Haven't printed them yet, but the negatives look promising. For now the best I have is a photo I made three years ago, which I think was last time we got the camera out. Sorry that the scan is not real good, but I think I need to clean my scanner.<div></div>
Mike Gammill
Here is one of the pictures that I made with the Voigtlander. I had to scan from a print. Sorry it took so long to post, but I haven't had much time for the darkroom.<div></div>
