thomas_watkins1
Hello everyone, I'm planning a trip to Vancouver WA next month and would like some info about the place (as I have never been there before) just the important stuff like known great photogenic places (Landscapes), places to avoid, I'll be there a few days and will be renting equipment before I go so I'll not need that info, but anything else would be greatly appreciated. cbettis
Vancouver is just a few miles west of the mouth of the Columbia River Gorge, which is truly magnificent. Mt. St Helens viewpoints are all around the area and if you want to get really close it is about an hour and a half drive. In the city itself is the original Ft. Vancouver that was founded by the Hudson Bay Trading Company. Officers Row and the current Ft. Vancouver has great old restored housing that was occupied by everyone from US Grant to Eisenhower. If you have any specific questions or I can help in other ways, email me off line. Chuck
ducksquat
Follow the road just south of the Columbia River in Oregon along the river bank westwards towards the Pacific. You'll have great shots all along with waterfall turnouts, the long bridge at Astoria and make your way to Cannon Beach SP on the Pacific for amazing photos. It's not that long of a drive. On the way back, go across the bridge in Astoria and make your way back on that side for different perspectives. This will give you a good one day trip. thomas_watkins1
Thanks guys! Just the info I needed, I do believe this is going to be a very worthwhile trip. I just piked up a couple B+W ND (3 stop) filters for $10.00 on E-Bay for those waterfalls! :)
ted_reyes
If you like fantastic wind or kite surfing photos, take WA14 east, parellel to the Columbia River. Great scenary on the way to the city of Hood River. Before the Hood River Bridge is the "Hatchery." This is a fish hatchery and one of the best place to get close up shots of some of the best windsurfing in the world. Go on a weekday for parking. After leaving the Hastch, one can drive up Mt. Hood or drive back on I-84 and stop to see waterfalls. Over in Portland, the Rose Garden is tremendous too.<div></div>
