M3 Strap on back page of latest VIEWFINDER

Recommended Posts

Those LHSA members would have noticed the great advertisement on the back of

the most recent edition of VIEWFINDER.

It has an M3 with a DR Summicron MC meter.

I am wondering about the strap and in particular the clips attaching to the

lugs.

Can you get these straps any more ?

Were they a common type of strap at the time or were the plain rings more

prominent ?

I haven't seen new camera straps like that in probably 30 years! They were pretty common at one time. Someplace kicking around here I have a few of those screw-clips that I saved from straps whose leather had seen better days. The clip is handy to put on and take off the camera but tends to scratch up the finish. Not the ideal thing for a Fondler to put on his or her brand new MP unless they just intend to put it on the table next to a "Do Not Touch" sign where their friends can admire it and say "Ooh! Gorgeous!"

And yet another of your endless posts that are simply a pretext to once more expel your ad nauseam rant against people who have enough money to buy a new Leica and enough self-esteem to take pride in its ownership.

Yes, you can still get straps like that nowadays w/those clips, but they're usually found on luggage (purses & shoulder bags), not camera straps. The downside of using the clips is that they may mess up the camera around the strap lugs.

If you're not wedded to the old-timey leather strap, Domke's Gripper straps have quick-release clips, but you have to reverse the ends of each strap (very easy to do, however).

The clips on those old straps may offer a "vintage" look, but from a utilitarian point of

view, they suck. The lock-nut had a way of coming unscrewed over time and the strap

would come off the camera resulting in the camera crashing to the ground. These straps

belong in a museum , not on a camera anyone is going to use.
