25asa
This is continued from a previous thread: Here is a response by Dwaynes in Kansas about developing Super 8 Kodachrome in the future: "Thank You for your question. Yes, we will still be processing Super 8 film as long as the 35mm is still around, even after the Switzerland lab closes. Please let me know if you require additional assistance. June Brooks K14movies.com" So it looks like we can stock up on this stuff and safely not worry about getting it developed. I wonder if Kodak will send to these guys after Switzerland closes or if you'll have to mail it yourself. I suspect the latter. So as long as 35mm Kodachrome sticks around, we can get out Super 8mm done. Looks like its freezer time again.
bobatkins
I think the key phrase here is "<em>...So as long as 35mm Kodachrome sticks around...</em>". <p> How much longer do you think that will be? I suspect that if the name were Colorchrome, it might have already gone. There can't be a whole lot more than the "Koda" part of the name keeping it going. Kodak can't be making money on it anymore and as we've seen, it it doesn't make money for them, it's future is not bright. I imagine they are relectant to see the "Kodak Kills Kodachrome" headlines, but I don't know how much longer they'll feel that way. <p> I certainly wouldn't stock a BIG freezer with it... 25asa
Kodachrome's life expectancy is limited- of course. But I expect it will outlast Super 8 Kodachrome which extends the deadline by a short time. The fact they are still making 16mm Kodachrome means that it will still be with us for the short term. I won't stuff my freezer with this stuff, but I will certainly by enough rolls that I know I'll use in the next 4 to 5 years. I don't expect Kodachrome to last much past 2010. Even if its 2008- that gives 2 extra years to develop it to 2010. Being that Dwaynes is independant, I'm sure they'll keep it going for as long as the chemicals for K14 are made available by Kodak- assuming the odd roll still comes in. john_shriver
You can't run a profitable K-14 on the odd roll that comes in. Especially not the Cine lines that Dwayne's has. That's why A&I shut their K-Lab down. The call is Kodak's, when they discontinue the chemicals, it's all over.
skip_a
I just bought 50 carts of Super 8 K40, so my deep freeze isn't nearly full. Just 1/3 of one shelf. I'm considering another 50 carts, but that's about as much as I'll risk having on hand. And I'm shooting it, not hoarding it. I shot four rolls within the past couple of weeks. rustys pics
Super 8 Kodachrome is not dead yet. Keep shooting and hounding Kodak. B&H sold out their stock in 2 weeks and now have more in. Kodak needs to get the message and sales are about the only thing that will do it.....
