Argus Argoflex circa 1940's

First open the back by pressing in the two silver tabs at the top.

Once you have the back open, check to see if you have an empty spool. If it's at the bottom, you need to remove it(it may even fall out when you open the back) and place it at the top, making sure that it engages with the advance lever. If you don't have a spool at all, you need to pay a visit to your friendly local pro lab and ask nicely for one.

Take a fresh roll of film, tear the little paper seal off it, and unroll the leader a little bit. Place the roll in the bottom chamber such that the colored side of the paper leader(as opposed to the black waxy side) will feed out on top. Then, feed the leader over top of the two rollers, and thread the pointed end into the slot in the top spool. Turn the film advance knob enough to make sure that the film is winding properly-I'd suggest two or three complete turns.

Once you've made sure that it's winding, close the back and open the shutter over the little ruby window. Turn the film advance crank several turns, watching the ruby window. You'll see a series of arrows, as well as the name of the emulsion. Finally, you'll see a number one. At this point, you can stop and you're ready to take the first exposure.

My Argoflex is able to take both 120 and 620 film. I understand that some later ones can only take 620, and, if that's the case, you'll need to respool 120 onto 620 spools.

I don't know if mine is as old as yours but mine will & can use 120 film.

I still have the first roll in the camera , I've got about 4 frames left of 12. It shoots 6X6 negatives.

I used a regular plastic 120 take-up spool and the 120 also fits into the feed side, no re-spooling needed.

As for loading, open the back, put in a take-up spool, then install the feed roll, with the tail of the film facing up while holding the camera in front of you.

Unfasten the leader band and pull it over to the take - up spool.

Thread it into the slot in the spool, wind a turn unto the take-up spool, hold your thumb on the feed roll and wind till you see 'start'and with the film tight across the film plane. Close the cover , wind till you get numbers and start shooting.

I have used an Argus 40 some with pleasing results and I see no reason the Argoflex will not do the same.<div>00HVPf-31503984.thumb.jpg.287cf667964b6edaa826a13964bedad8.jpg</div>
