Whatever happened to the Leica CM zoom?

It is not listed on the new Leica website and is not listed by Robert White any

more. (Or by www.ffordes.com either)

Not that I wanted one. I just happened to notice.

I suppose it was not selling.

The 40mm f/2.4 Summarit version is still listed.

Just my (possibly naive) assumption, but I think that the people who are interested in a zoom

lens point and shoot are probably more interested in digital than film. With a fast, fixed focal

length lens, you are attracting M shooters who want a more compact unit or people who

would like a Leica, but cannot afford or do not want to pay for an M camera. The people who

are interested in the zoom are probably better served by the digital cameras which are

cheaper, in some ways more versatile and smaller.

I agree with Stuart. While I still have my Leica CM zoom and plan to keep it, it just does not

have all the features of my Panasonic DMC-LX1. The digtal point and shoot is smaller, has

an f/2.8 lens instead of a f/3.5 lens, a top shutter speed of 1/2000, and can be used in

program, aperature, shutter, or manual modes, and it can take pictures in three aspect ratios.

What I really like about the the Leica CM zoom is the ergonomic design, and the fabulous

Leica lens! It's really good.

Sandy I assume you had one of the first batch of CM cameras that had the very bug you described (all fixed free of charge and the bug removed in all subsequent models.)

I bought a CM (40mm f/2,4 version) soon after Leica had addressed that problem and it was an an excellent camera with no problems at all.

Leica are still making this version.

The version I was asking about was the zoom model.
