Dan's Camera Clinic Miami

Recommended Posts

I ran into a Hasselblad toting photographer a few times recently at the Lunastar Cafe across from city hall on N.E. 125th St. who told me that Manfred (that was "Dan's" real name. I guess he'd bought the place from "Dan") was working out of his house and using another photographer's studio as a pick up/drop off place. I did write down the info but the problem is where the note is...LOL

Al Kaplan poted about Gunter doing work from home a while back. Try a search or wait for Al to advise us.

Dan's has been around my whole life it seems. They will be missed. He was an old time voigtlander trained camera guy. I got screwed there a lot (everytime I was missing one he would have the replacement).

The "Hassleblad guy" is named Mike. Alexis looked for his number and couldn't find it, called her significant other Keith who's a friend of Mike's, but he's working on the set of a TV production and will call her back later. Anyway, at some point I should get the information. Hang in there!

Thanks Al for your efforts but, I have found out that Manfred is still

working on cameras. A few years ago I was at Aperture which is

a rental studio in Miami Beach. On the counter were some

Mamiya RZs which were on there way to Dans (Manfred) so, I

thought I would give Aerture a call to see if they new where he

was. We went through the story of the shop had to close due to

rent increases.....anyway, the story is that he goes each

Wednesday round about noon to pick up equipment for repair at

another rental studio called One Source Studios which is located

at 6440 4th Ct. Miami 305.751.2556. (President/Owner is

Andrew Dillon) So, I will be dropping my extension tubes off at

One Source for Manfred to fix. I only have good things to say

about him - he is honest and does great work at a resonable

price. He adjusted my range finder in my Leica M4 3 or 4 years

ago and I have never had a problem since.

Thanks again Al

Richard..

Karl, property values and rents here have gone through the roof over the last 5 years or so. Residential rents are putting the squeeze on a lot of working people also. As long as those of us still using film cameras can locate Manfred we'll be happy. He didn't really advertize, and his shop was set back from the road so you really had to look for it anyway. His business was always by word of mouth and referrals.

Probably next week I'll post a couple of your shots on my blog that you sent, the ones you shot in Miami a few weeks ago. I'll also post some I shot and mail some prints to you.

Hello AL,

thats good news ! Iam looking forward to this event !!

These days its hotter here in GERMANY than it ever was in FLORIDA, by the way. Things are upside down, not only in our photoworld, the Lebanon (ect.) but also meteorologically ...

Have a nice aircon- weekend

John's assesment was accurate.

Which one was that Brad - Al's photos being awful or the existence of awsome photos on this

forum. Seems to me john doesn't know his photographic, erm, backside from his

photographic elbow.

John got my curiosity up, so I clicked on Al's links. From what I can tell the photos aren't

wonderful due to bokeh, or lines per mm, or gradation. Looks like content is what's most

important.

You don't think there are awesome photos on this forum Stuart? How about Doug Herr's photos? How about Stuart Richardson's shots from Iceland? There are many others, though I can't be certain all of them are still active on the Leica forum. Not that anyone could blame them.
