ron_kennison
For about a month now, when I open a forum after a few seconds a message box appears saying, " Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site http://www.photo.net/board/ and a-a-fetch-msg? The page is open but not scrollable with the box open. If I say OK and close the box... then the page dissapears and says: this page cannot be displayed. Is this some new windows XP secutity thing? don_cooper
Could be your security setting. Click tools/internet options/security. Play around with the settings (lower them?) and see if that solves the problem. Also be sure the site isn't listed in the restricted sites. rdkirk
I'll be darned if I didn't get it the moment I opened this topic. That and a general lockup has been happening to me on several different networked computers--and different networks--for the past couple of weeks. And it only happens with photo.net. I'm certain there is some incompatibility with some common security measure (either IE or Norton) and those new "travelling" advertising windows now on photo.net I'd rather photo.net get rid of those intensely annoying ads than anyone reduce security in order to accomodate them. ted_fyfield1
Yes this has started happening today 7th May 2006, and only in the last few hours say from 19:00 GMT. I haven't changed anything on Internet Explorer recently though a week ago I made the mistake of allowing Automatic updates for a day. This is the only site I have seen this. ted_fyfield1
The error message suggests a problem on the web page,<div></div>
ted_fyfield1
The 'rsi_pub' is not in the text under view source, so it must be something to do with Google and the adds.

ted_fyfield1
Using Firefox I see the 'rsi_pub' is part of a javascript error on http://ads.revsci.net/..... site Having spent some time on this who do I bill my time, photo.net for allowing that ad site to upset my surfing pleasure without properly supervising the ad sites content, the ad sites owners, or Microsoft for making an overly sensitive browser. On reflection we saw this problem some months back but I cannot remember the settings on IE which need changing.
donreid
Kirk Darling , may 07, 2006; 04:08 p.m. "I'd rather photo.net get rid of those intensely annoying ads than anyone reduce security in order to accomodate them." Easily done. Become a paying member to Photo.net and the ads go away, along with the problem you are having. Nothing wrong with that, right? ted_fyfield1
Playing with Firefox if you disable java script, then most of the ads vanish anyway. I would not have found this if it were not for the faulty script, seems the ad people have shot them selves in the foot.
peten
Only seems to occur if I am not signed in.Once I had signed in the problem vanished.Definitely seems to be linked to the advertising.
vcallaway
I've not seen any errors. Of course I also use firefox.
bdp
I started getting the error also about a month ago, not all the time, randomly, but if you click ok, and refresh, it works. I noticed that this all started happening around the time Photo Net had a Font issue, where the forum fonts were messed up.<div></div>
terry_rory
Why does anyone use IE ?
thomas_sullivan
it really doesn't matter what browser someone uses....it's the website programer's responsiblity to ensure that the site they build works with all of them. ...so someone should get the responsible person to do their job the right way. ted_fyfield1
I use IE because may sites do not work with Firefox, particularly sites with IE orientated slide shows. Thomas is right, its upto photo.net to prevent ad companies from using sloppy web code to spoil its site. By the way the problem appears to have gone away this morning. rdkirk
>>Jeepers, try Mozilla Firefox and stop whining about dog manure like IE.<< That's kind of like a store owner in Ciudad Mexico demanding that all his customers speak only English. It's always been a webmaster or web designer's job to make sure the site is functional on as many common browsers as possible. Whether you like IE or not, it's still the most common browser.
