First Impressions?

This will be a multi-step process and this is just a ROUGH draft from which

things will be refined, better aligned, and possibly changed. Please take a

look at the initial page for my new website and let me know what you think

(links are NOT connected yet). Here are the things I'm most interested in

knowing...<br>

1. First impressions about...<br>

- Quality of work?<br>

- Type of photography?<br>

- Overall style?<br>

- Professionalism?<br>

<br>

2. Functionality...<br>

- Does the page load quickly?<br>

- Is it spaced/centered well within your browser window?<br>

- Are all of the roll over images functional?<br>

- Did you discover the blog link? Was it accidental?<br>

- What do you expect to see when you click on the images?<br>

<br>

3. Design..<br>

- Do you feel as though anything could be larger or smaller?<br>

- Do you think the logo should have a 3-Dimensional quality (like a drop

shadow) in order to designate it as a clickable area?<br>

<br>

I'm very open to your criticisms and expectations, and look forward to sharing

more of this site with you in the future. Photo.net was instrumental in my

ability to come thus far, and I appreciate all of the different perspectives

that can be shared here.<br>

<br>

Keeping all of the above in mind... please <a

see the sample site.

Thank you!

PS. I should mention that all of my external marketing materials are directed specifically toward weddings, but that I want to communicate the larger body of work I have through my website.

Hi Anne,

I like the page, and the navigation was easy enough to figure out. The page loaded quickly enough for me, but I am on a high speed connection, so am not a good reference for that.

The problem that everyone has noticed is that the page is hard coded to be centered on a screen with a resolution of 1280x1024. At least that is one resolution that shows it centered. I looked at your source and you are using divs, which is good, IMHO. Here is what I would do to allow this to center up on most screens:

<div align="center" width="800"> (or what ever the width needs to be)

<div float="left">put your wedding content here</div>

<div float="right">put your art content here</div>

<div>put your lifestyle content here</div>

<div>put your logo here</div>

</div>

You will then need to play with the margins and padding for each of the divs to get it to look right, but it can be done with out too much work.

Let me know if this doesn't make much sense.

Anne,

in answer to #1:

nice work

jumbled types of photography. I would skip the art section for sure and even the lifestyles if you really want to focus on wedding work.

Solid style

The professionalism is betrayed for me by the use of those little sqwiggles above and below the main image links.

2:

Yes it load quite fast using firefox and osx.

Yes

yes

NO!

Galleries

3:

I think the sizes are great, on the small side, but just fine really.

I would like to see it in an offset of some description.

Hope that helps, D.

Works great on Firefox on XP @ 1280x1024. The design is gorgeous and effective. However, links that are not labed is a huge design no-no! You should not force your viewer to hunt for what they want, they will get frustrated and leave.

I found the blog link because I knew to look for it, but I don't think it quite fits. The text for your rollovers is smaller and your popular script font, but the BLOG text is huge and a block font. I don't think it's a great idea to put the blog link under your logo. Not sure on a better recommendation, however.

Again, great simple idea, but skip the rollovers - or at just label them appropriately in addition to the rollover.

Looks horrid in Safari on a Mac. Shows off-center, similar to another site I commented on

last week. I'm not a web designer, so I'm not sure what part of the code causes this; but as a

Mac user I wouldn't spend more than a few seconds on the site after seeing this.

Maybe someone else has more input on how to fix this?

Otherwise, I like the look... I even like the "hidden" blog link. Not everything has to be in

your face...
