rachel_seed
Has anyone ever done this: I plugged in my card reader w/ CF card inserted into my MAC. The card reader icon did not appear on my screen, so I removed the card reader from the computer and it told me "warning: the device you removed has not been properly put away. Data may have been lost or damaged, etc". I then put the card back in my camera and it said "no image". Is there a god-given way to get these pictures back? I spent 2 hours shooting at a fair today and I desperately want them back.
michaelging
If you can see the images on the back of the camera, they are still there. I have done this. Take the card out, close PS, and reboot the computer.I hope this helps.
godfrey
You'll probably need to find and use one of the file recovery applications out there. Don't format or try to write to the card in the meanwhile. Godfrey
waysail
The first thing that you'll need is move away from your Mac and borrow a friend's PC. Could be that some recovery tools are available on the Mac, but I personnaly do not know any when they are legions in the PC world. I personnaly use Winternals tools, but there are plenty out there... One of your PC friends should be able to help you... If you really value your data, taking the card to a computer service company should most likely get things back... WIsh I could help you more... Best of luck... rachel_seed
Thanks for all your input. A colleague mentioned the recovery software so I may give that a try. When I put it in my camera it says "no image", and it appears to be empty, but I still have hope...
john v.
Did you try plugging the card back into the computer to see if the pictures show up. Or maybe try connecting the card reader with card to a different computer, if available. As far as file recovery is concerned, I've had good results with EXIF Untrasher, a free file recovery program for Macs. stephen_sedgwick
The message you describe is a standard message that would also come up in windows when disconnecting a USB device improperly. Most people ignore the message or don't notice it. Chances say the pictures are still there however I am not sure if your Mac was configured to auto initialize drives that are not formatted. If this is the case you could have possibly lost the images. How big of memory card were you using? and what Mac OS? Does it read both fat 16 and fat 32? Lots of memory cards and cameras use a PC formatted file structure. If you initialized the card when you put it on the Mac then you will need to probably get some Mac recovery tools to read the table of contents in a fat 16/32 (Dos) format. Most new Mac operating systems can read fat 16 and fat 32 in some capacity.
