robbie_caswell
I looked for almost an hour and couldn't find an answer to my queestion. What set of frame lines does the 40mm pull up on the m4-2? Specifically I'm looking at the 40mm f/1.4 VC
john_morris4
50mm. Some people file off a little metal on the mount to let it choose the 35mm lines instead.
ronald_moravec1
I would own one if there was a 40mm frame. Others report the 50 is accurate up close and 35 best for distance. There is extra at distance with all frames.
35mmdelux
If filing, I suggest either extreme caution or have an expert do it so that it is accurately done. For one, how does one know what kind/size file to use, etc?....
al_kaplan1
I used a small triangular file. It doesn't have to be neat or filed off square. Mine is filed at a slight angle. As long as it doesn't push the lever in the camera body is all that matters.
ben_johnson3
I filed the tab on my CV 40/1.4 to bring up the 35mm framelines on my M6. It's a simple process with a small file: file a bit, test the lens, file some more, test the lens, etc. There is a posting somewhere on this site about the modification, but the images I saw involved filing far too much metal. The best thing to do is to compare a 50mm lens and a 35mm lens - you have to look very closely to see the difference. BTW, I much prefer shooting my 40 with the 35mm framelines. mark_amos
I've wrestled with the frameline issue myself with my great 40 cron, but I don't want to file it since its more or less irreversible (right?) and I think the jury might be out on the benefits. WHY ON EARTH did Leica make the cam trigger 50 on the other Ms when they introduced it if 35 is better, which it seems it would be? I thought maybe it would have caused conflicts with some bodies, but as I think about it, I don't think any camera has had both 40 and 35 frames, so how could there be a conflict? guan_leong_chua
I filed mine too according to the instructions by Monkey here:

http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00CcwG

Yeah, this is filed a bit too much, and mine is the same. If you file not at an angle but almost perpendicularly, then a little bit would do. But I find that more tricky and may accidentally damage the lens. I think it is okay to over file, as the 35mm is default frameline when there is nothing pushing the lever in the camera.
