Fall Colors in Bavaria and Czech Republic

Hi there, next week I'll be traveling to Germany to spend a week in the Bavarian

Alps and then a week in the Czech Republic. Since I'm a nature photographer by

hobby I'm wondering what sort of fall colors to expect. When is the peak of

fall color in that part of Europe? Any suggestions for particularly photogenic

locations to shoot? Thanks!

Unfortunately with fall and the terrific colors, you can also get some really heavy overcast weather in that section of Europe, at times almost like semi-twilight. There are areas south of Munich in the Bad Tolz Area and southward to Lenggries right on the Austrian Border that are terrific, provided there's some sunlight. A highway will take you from Munich to Bad Tolz, then there's another highway to Lenggries and a 2-laner to the park on the Austrian Border. Very nice drive. You could actually get snow already.

A Google search for "Ahornboden" (=mapleground) may help. And I am sure

you'll find photos that do more justice to the possibilities here than that dreadful shot above.<p>Don't worry, the colors can be breathtaking, especially when there is "Föhn"- a weather situation frequently encountered in autumn on our side of the Alps providing unbelievably blue skies and crystal-clear air.<p>

Hi, might I know which part of Czech Republic are you gonna visit? Hi David. Sorry, the day you posted was the day I left. Just got back yesterday. We only went to Klotovy and Prague in the Czech Republic. Unfortunately the weather was generally crappy thoughout the whole trip in both the Bavaria and Czech Republic. But oh well. I took the pictures that the conditions permitted. :)

 

My observations generally were that it was too early for fall colors there. I guess altitude must play a large role, as the fall colors in the Rocky Mountins are almost over.
