allan_schoening
Does anyone know when Canon is planning on unveiling their new top-of-the-line Digital SLR? The 1ds Mark II has been around for almost 18 months now so I'm sure a new one is coming...does anyone know when or what the specs will be? Thank you

ky2
The new DSLR will be incredibly superior to anything out there, and will therefore render anything that you have extremely obsolete. According to Michael Reichmann, it would even surpass 8x10 chrome drum scans, and will be usable at ISO 2^32 +- 1.
pete w
The next big show is September so if there is one that would the time. No idea what it will offer maybe the delete button will be replaced with a suck button...}
PuppyDigs
I'm sure it will have a dedicated Direct Print button in a prominent place. Sometimes the light’s all shining on me. Other times I can barely see. - Robert Hunter

mrstubbs
I do hope it is a medium or large format studio camera. One where I may take a group shot of one hundred and crop 8x10s of each face, built in radio transfer, live histogram, inbuilt colour meter, rotating lens set.... and a red ring? Oh!...and remote control tripod please with a built in seat. And if it could be under five kilograms of gold in cost it would be lovely. :)
franklin_polk
Heres the truth about the specs: The people that know them can't tell anybody, due to non-disclosure clasues and agreements that they have to sign. If they did decide to let out the specs, they would definitly lose their jobs. Thus, any specs you hear about are made up by someone who really has no idea what is really going on with then next camera.
michaelkh
Allan - Dan was just saying in one word what Franklin spelled out in more detail. Someone knows, and they'll tell when Canon is ready. Rumours that this new camera will make you a substantially better photographer or take substantially better photos than the 1DS Mk II would are likely to be unfounded. justin_goeden
The 1ds Mark II has been around for almost 18 months now...
Wow, what about my AE-1's and RB67 that's 18+ YEARS old but still work great. Let's concentrate on the photography that the camera is shooting and not worry about new cameras until the loans are paid off! haha j/k people. ian_collins1
I'm betting it will have 22 MP. But also that I can't afford it! Wonder will it have lens issues at that type of resolution. -Ian (Contended 5D user).
john_jovic
Yeah, looking forward to having to boost my 2+ Tera Byte of disk storage... NOT... To be honest, I'd only consider upgrading if; 1/High ISO performance improved considerably (which I imagine it will) 2/frame rates came close to 1VHS rates (which I imaginge they wont) 3/MTBF increaseed significantly (lets not be silly) I really don't want a 22/24 MB sensor, just for the sake of it. It doesn't really matter to me. 8MB is actually well suited to most magazine work, my bread and butter, so 22/24 is just being silly. JJ
lamoine_einspahr
I think it will be a 24x24mm square format with an incredible amount of pixels with noise free images to 3200ISO. As an old lover of my Rolliflex EVS with a measly 3.5 Tessar, I yearn for a similar choice in a digital Canon. Just think of the sweet center point of Canon lenses impacting this new sensor format.
