Is this replacing the Ds2/DL2? I would assume so from the pricing, though both having a penta-mirror? I don't know enough about the other specifications to make a detailed comparison though the K100D is slightly larger though slightly lighter (!) than the DS2.

 

More to the point, where is the similar sized 10 megapixel body that I'm eagerly awaiting to couple with those 3 pancake lenses to make possibly the best street shooting digital camera in existence? (excepting the Digital M if you like the paradigm which I don't, but then who can afford that?).

Is there any indication that the anti-shake is licensed from Minolta/Sony or was developed in-house?

I am planning for another Pentax body for a teleprime likely 200mm or 300mm if price is right.

 

This is right on where I need. I hope they come with body only as I have absolutely no need for the kit lens.

Great! I need that anti-shake (I overslept the Minolta sale out) and the always overflowing buffer of my *ist(plain)D shouts for a 2nd body. - A pity that it won't take my CF cards, but the price sounds fair. 6MP already chalenged some of my lenses and still sell well.

Good thing they're finally dumping that unpronounceable & unsearchable *ist name.

As a long-time Pentax user I am pleased to see them bringing out new models. Like the previous poster I too am glad they have dropped the silly names but they are still shooting themselves in the foot by adopting a naming convention in which the HIGHER numbers have LOWER functionality - that is the reverse of every other consumer goods manufacturer. The K110 is like the K100 but without the image stabilization.

 

Here in America we have the tendency to "buy the sizzle not the steak" so marketing is vitally important. Pentax have never been good at labels - prefering NOT to mention it when their lenses contain aspherical elements or low-dispersion glass or when their metering is "matrix" or when the lenses have "D" functionality.

 

In Europe & Asia customers seem capable of looking beyond the "branding" and other marketing hype and make purchasing decisions on more objective, functional criteria with the result that Pentax is more highly regarded in those markets than in the US.

 

Come on Pentax, if you want to increase US sales then you have to be more like Canon and use simple names like "Rebel" or "KISS" rather than "300v". Or be more like Nikon and use an under-dressed drug-addled Brit bimbo to push your product on television (while the British company Burberry and the French company Chanel dropped her). These things are much more important than the product itself.

It'd be nice to see one in a metal body shaped like a K1000.

After looking again, I noticed the body goes up to ISO 3200, you get a SMC ``kit`` lens and all that for under $700!

Well, Canon do it too! Their top of the line models are always 1, and then, maybe a 3, and

5, and then double-digits. The more digits, and the higher the number, often, the lower

the model.... It's not unique. And I seem to remember that some stereo company did

something similar, but my brain is fuzzy on that point at this moment.

 

In any case, I think I'm glad I held onto my Pentax glass when I bought my Canon

camera. ;-)

Love Pentax. Still have my MZ-30 with 50/1.4. But right now, sticking with a 300D and two old Takumar 50/1.4 and 35/3.5 lenses. Waiting for a Pentax full-frame-- then I might jump back home!

Andrè, I'm afraid you'll have to wait for a long time. According to rumours, Pentax is not even thinking about going to full format. Maybe they'll never do it.

Infact, Pentax is designing and producing a lot of good DA lenses, some of them are high quality, quite expensive lenses, and none of them will work with full format. Instead, they are soon going to medium format with a digital 645.

Very interesting, I like the low cost of the old pentax lenses so it makes sense to use the new dslrs.
