prashanteju
I was wondering what would happen if one loads the roll-film reversed! Yesterday I loaded the film in my M645 in a hurry (light was fading fast) only to realize just in time that it is loaded reversed (start here mark was upside-down). Anybody done this mistake?! What would happen?
nige_buddy
you 'expose' the paper backing (assuming you loaded a roll of 120... no idea what happens with 220, might depend on whether the film has a anti-haletion layer) and won't get any pictures... nikos peri
You get to smack yourself on the forehead, and tick that item off your personal list of "1,000,001 ways to screw up a shot".
Done that, been there... Congratulations
prashanteju
hmm, then in 'theory' the film is still useful if loaded again in the darkroom...no I do not want to save film or something but just curious. I did correct my mistake before 'exposing' though. It was a 120.
nikos peri
In theory.. I'd agree. You would have to re-spool it to get it going the correct direction, but. I have seen some severely pushed film 25,600 ISO show the markings of the backing paper (when shot the correct way around), so you might have some fogging.
I would use it to practice loading a reel. michaelkh
Ah, the 'practise loading a reel' bag. A few 35mm and 120 accidents in mine...
james_elwing
Only commnists n' terrists load roll film reversed. It is a bit hard to do; dont you feel a bit silly? my condolences. Some cameras it would just go through & you would wonder where the image went after development.
prashanteju
James thanks for your enlightment. Sounds like a '70s' guy!
picturesque
If it was 220, you'd get some faint images. I have seen a processed 220 roll when the film was loaded backwards. With 120, you probably wouldn't get any images, but I wouldn't take a chance if it was an important job.
david_henderson
I know that you don't get any pictures with 120. Guess how I'm so sure?
mark_jordan3
I accidently did this once with a roll of 120 while in a hurry loading my 501cm. I thought about respooling it, but felt there was a good chance of there being either ghosting and/or scratches from dragging the emulsion side against the film plate. Thankfully it was only 12 exposures and nothing super important.
gwilburn
Hmmmm. Did that myself just this afternoon. Ran the entire roll through and wondered why my film unravelled when I took it out. The sealing tape was on the 'wrong' side LOL! Still getting used to loading the A12 back for a 'Blad 500CM. Loading my Rolleiflex is more straightforward ... :-)
nick_wilson2
I did expose a sheet of paper the wrong way in the darkroom once...produced a ghostly image that was quite interesting. Doesn't work for film with paper backing, though. Watch out for those carmnists and terrists lerking unda tha bedd!
pavelp
If you load the 120 roll wrong way, you just have to develop the backing paper, discard the film and everything should be OK :-)
fino
I did this once on holidays and "lost" some probably good shots. The bad news is you've lost everything, the good news is you will never do this again.
