Fomapan200 and XTOL 1+1

Hi All,

I'm new to B&W and development and want to try using and developing Fomapan200

and developing it in XTOL deluted 1+1 but cannot find any times listed for XTOL

deluted only undeluted with Fomapan200 in 135 film? Is there a reason for this?

Is anyone using XTOL 1+1 and if so what development time would you recommend at

20C?

Thanks, Ron

PS. Sorry if this question has been asked before but I've been searching for the

answer for hours and can find nothing.

"The film curls like a watch spring."

Are you talking about 120 or 35mm format? I've shot/souped one roll of 35mm (Arista.EDU Ultra version - should be identical) and didn't experience any unusual curl. Lovely film, by the way.

120 is probably a different story, based on my experience with Foma 400 in 120. The stuff curls (as in wants to wind back up) like crazy. Do they use a curling iron as part of the manufacturing process?

Hi Ron,

the Fomadon Excel film developer produced by FOMA is identical to Kodak XTOL. You can find development times suggested by FOMA for Fomapan200 in Fomadon Excel at this address:

http://www.freestylephoto.biz/pdf/Fomapan_200.pdf#search=%22fomapan%2B200%2Bcreative%22

They do not give indications for the 1+1 dilution, but their suggestions are a good starting point.

Good luck,

Antonio Federici

Mitchell: I am talking about 135 Fomapan 200 as sold by J&C. I don't know

about being identical. Seems to me that there are too many authorities

contending that "things are identical" without expressing their credentials

or source of informaton. That sort of thing is rampant on this forum.

Further, I have developed over forty rolls of this this film and found the

curl to be consistent.

Hi Donald,

a source of information about interesting similarities can be found here:

http://www.digitaltruth.com/chart/unlisted.html

Other sources are available if you are interested.

However, FOMA itself gives contrast-time curves, and other data about FOMA films under the double heading: "Fomadon Excel/Kodak XTol".

Regards,

Antonio Federici
