zoombrowser w/ multiple cameras

Have you tried Picasa? It's a free software from Google and tends to make easy work of multiple cameras. As well, the printing option is excellect for beginners and provide options for all sizes of prints and paper. It will allow you to modify and organize all your photos from your camera and on your PC.
I used ZoomBrowser too but found it difficult to use sometimes and there is no batch processing feature like in Picasa

thanks for the suggestions!

The version that came with the 30D is 5.6.0.27. All the older photos from the G3 are present.

Two other software items came with the 30D, EOS utility and Digital Software Professional version 2.1.1.4. I will take a look at the other two image organizers, but I would rather stay with zoombrowser, as it has given me no prior problems.

I'd suggest you use a card reader. Once you have Zoombrowser working correctly with that, it shouldn't care which camera was used, as it is only using the driver for the card reader. There probably is some trick to getting multiple drivers for different cameras working with direct camera connections (try Canon's technical support if you really want to go that route - the details may vary by version of Zoombrowser and computer operating system), but there is no advantage in doing so, since you are likely to have faster downloads and fewer problems using the reader.

An excellent suggestion. Zoombrowser's date-based folder creation (which it pulls from the EXIF data) for images is far superior to Windows Explorer copy/paste or even Picasa. A card reader is the best solution for copying images regardless of how many cameras you have.

jm,

I've got a 5.5 version and it displays G3 .crw files. When you say it doesn't recognize the G3 files, do you mean it displays a 'placeholder' icon in thumbnail view and also doesn't display the single image either? Or do you mean they aren't recognized at all? Z will display a default icon indicating "broken", if the thumbnail is missing or corrupt. I don't think it matters (at least with my version) if the .crw's associated .thm files are removed, but that might have changed.

If you don't have an alternative to Z installed -- even if you want to continue to use Z -- you should do so. Picasa as suggested, or download the free trial of Breezebrowser Pro, which is what I've always used for Canon raw files. This way, if the G3 files display properly in it, you'll know where the problem lies, and a complete uninstall and then reinstall of Z would be the next step.

If BBPro or Picasa can't display them, then something else is going on.

Good Luck,

Don E

jm,

My wife reminds me that when we bought the A620 and installed the new Z, we had some problem downloading the last shoot from the G3. We can't remember any details, though. Since the older version of Z was still installed on another computer, we dl'd from there. The G3 was retired because of a badly scratched lens and hasn't been used since. I've gotten curious about this and am charging the G3's battery, will snap a few, and see if newer Z can dl the files.

thanks again for all the info...tried picasa and it does recognize and aquire the images from the G3. the problem with zoombrowser is that i can not get it to take the photos off of the G3 camera because it is not allowing me to connect to that camera. zoombrowser works fine with the 30D.

jm,

Ran the test, and there is a difference between the original sw that came with the G3 and the newer version noted above.

Instead of Zoombrowser opening when the camera was attached and switched on, an app called Camera Window (among others) was offered by Windows for the upload, and then it opened Zoombrowser for viewing, rather than as the older sw, just opening Zoombrowser. There appear to be 4 or so "Camera Window" applications installed for, I guess, different cameras. One seems to be specifically for dslrs.

It seems likely that either you do not have a complete installation of the sw, or it is corrupted, or you have set a default that works for one camera, but is not appropriate to the other. Since I no longer use those applications, I did not have a default set, so I got XPs 'what app do you want to do this with'. There was no Zoombrowser option. Instead there was Canon's Camera Window.

Good Luck,
