connealy
I haven't looked at that fellow's site in quite a while and didn't realize he had so many items for sale. I wonder if anyone here has bought a camera from him? How are shipping charges from Hawaii?
User_1172872
If the wind mechanism is worn you may have close or overlapping frames. If that happens, try advancing the film a little beyond the start marks before closing the back. I used to advance the film so the start mark lined up with the chrome roller instead of the regular mark which improved the frame spacing but I still got 12 frames on the roll. mike_elek
This is roughly the equivalent of a 1960s Cadillac with wings. I think this is about as massive as folding cameras got. Great cameras though.
david_richert
This is to Mike- I have sold quite a few cameras in the last few months mostly on ebay. I'm not sure if to any of the photo.net members. My shipping is usually around $15 that covers good wrapping, packaging, insurance and priority mail that also covers my handling expense. I stand by my restoration (read my feedback). I am also pushing other members to add information to their web pages (see a earlier input) also I'm hosting the photo.net Classic Camera Contest.... not a comercial endorsement :)
connealy
Thanks, David. There was a recent thread on getting started with shooting old cameras and the dangers of doing that on eBay. If you stand behind yours, then that seems like a nice way to get one or two cameras for someone who isn't into collecting them in bulk as many of us have done. glenn_thoreson
I believe I recently purchased a camera from David Richert. May be mistaken (old age, ya know). I do remember it came from Hawaii. David, if you are the one who sold the Welmy Six to graflexuser, all I can say is thanks! Anyhoo, whoever it was, the camera is fantastic and I love it. mskovacs
Does yours have an uncoated prewar Tessar?
robbie
Thanks for all your replys, ill see how this roll of film goes over the next day or so. This camera makes a nice change from what i normally carry around. All i need to do now is find a leather case for it.
kai_griffin
Yep, a superb camera. Mine fortunately still has a functioning meter that is as accurate as the day it was born. Until this thread, I've been fluking the loading of film into it as I had no idea what I was doing. The first several rolls have been just fine, but I botched the last one completely and ended up with a roll of double exposures. Thanks to David's site, I now know how to do it properly! mike_elek
Most of those leather cases are horrible. I can't recall how this one fits, but if it's like the others, the undetatchable front flops down with its only purpose being to annoy the photographer. Some of the cases detatch, and I've seen some that have been cut and riveted and others cut and stitched.
floyd_takeuchi
There was an earlier query from Mike C. about buying from David Richert. Last fall, I picked up a 533/16 that he overhauled, and it was an excellent transaction. I have the benefit of living in Hawaii, and Dave came over to my office with the camera I was interested in, and lots of others, too. I've been extremely happy with the camera, and have enjoyed getting to know Dave.
