Sent check, no subscriber membership yet

I know that new subscriptions are processed once a month, but I sent my check on Nov.

18, so it's been about a month and a half and still not listed as a subscriber. My check has

not cleared yet, I checked today. I supppose it's possible it took 2 weeks for USPS to get

the check from here to there and it arrived right after the processing cycle and I need to

wait a few more days.

If anyone who has anything to do with processing new subscribers and you see this,

please check into this for me, please. I'm very anxious to have full benefits and am

beginning to wonder if that's ever going to happen.

They are still holding my check as well. No biggie. Maybe they are going alphabetically by first name, eh?

I didn't use Paypal specifically because Paypal doesn't work. When I put in my credit card number, I get a phone number that I'm supposed to call to complete the transaction. That makes paypal significantly more hassle than writing a check; I don't have this trouble when I pay for other things online with the same credit card.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the reply. I don't feel it's too big an issue either, I just can't believe it's taking

this long. In photo.net's defense, this is a huge community that they have to deal with here

and I'm sure the volume must be tremendous.

I hadn't heard anything about people having trouble with Paypal. I personally don't use

credit cards anymore because I overuse them, if you know what I mean. Have some cool

toys, though!

Jeff are you sure you sent the check to the correct address? You checked to make sure the check wasn't cashed? You didn't get any direct response from anyone officially associated with photonet? If you can say YES to all three of those questions than that is good news for everyone as the site is finally financially stable and no longer needs subscriber funds. Hip Hip Hooray, Hip Hip Hooray!!!!!!

Yes, I have checked to see if the check is cashed and no it hasn't been cashed yet. I sent it

to the address given on this site along with a return address on the envelope. I havn't been

able to make contact with any official personnel associated with this site and I am hoping

that posting here is going to help get some questions answered.

I'm giving this until the end of April 2005 and then I'm cancelling my check.

Just to keep this alive a little longer.... I'm still in the same boat and I guess Jeff Henderson is too. My check went out in November '04. Photo.net hasn't cashed it and I haven't heard from anyone 'in management' so to speak.

In all this time, I've managed to resolve the problems I was having with PayPal, so about 36 hours ago I subscribed to photo.net with PayPal.

The money is now gone from my bank account, and photo.net doesn't recognize me as a subscriber; but the subscription page says it could take up to two days for photo.net to acknowledge the payment. Twelve hours to go on a strict interpretation, but I suppose I won't raise a fuss for several more days.

I haven't stopped payment on the check, though. I'm really interested to see if (and when) photo.net ever tries to cash it.

Thanks for the update, Jeff. I'm hoping to keep this thread alive as well since I really would

like to have full membership benefits and hope that some one in a position to do

something about the situation reads this and can look into this. I never would have

thought I'd have to beg someone to take money from me. I wish my landlord were like

photo.net.

Jeff H - I've been thinking about joining and then I stumbled upon this thread....

Hmmmmm. Sounds pretty lame, photo.net's response time, etc. I happen to know the

moderator of one of the forums on this site and I just emailed her with a link to this

discussion. Maybe she can get something done about this... Keeping my fingers crossed,

cause lie I said, I am on the verge of joining up myself, and I would want my extended

privileges to be activated right away. Isn't that the American way!?!?!

I have three comments. If you want to subscribe to photo.net:

Use Paypal

Use Paypal

Use Paypal

It will save a LOT of headaches. I know some people can't use PayPal, and they are in a tough spot.

BTW I have nothing at all to do with photo.net subscriptions. I can't help with lost checks and I can't activate user accounts and I have no access to any subscription records.

I just know that "Use Paypal" is the best advice for anyone wanting to subscribe. Even if you hate Paypal, using them is likely to be less of a headache than subscribing via a check or money order.

Just for the record, photo.net acknowledged my subscription within three days of my sending a PayPal payment and within two days of the actual time of the money transfer, thus coming in on-schedule according to the subscription page. So my "problem" is solved (really I just wanted to do the right thing, I didn't necessarily want to get anything out of it).

My inside source has come up with a radical idea - use PAYPAL! So, if was you I'd stop

payment on that check from November and use PAYPAL... PS - the real secret to using

Paypal is never, ever leave a balance with them. That way they can't randomly decide to

freeze your assets, as they are wont to do.

Thanks for the additional posts and advice. As far as paypal goes, I didn't use them in the

first place because I don't use credit cards any longer and only pay by check, cash or

money order these days. I still don't see what the big yank is about cashing a freakin'

check. Stamp the freakin' back and hand it to the freakin' teller all-freakin'-ready.

Ok, I'm done venting. Thanks for listening. Hopefully this will be resolved soon as I am

having a difficult time managing my gallery images because every time I want to up-load

something new I have to first decide what to delete. I like this site very much but wish

somebody could do something about the efficiency of cashing checks or at least make

membership subscriptions available only by cc so nobody runs into these types of

problems.

You don't actually need a credit card to use PayPal to subscribe to photo.net. I didn't use one; we opened a second checking account at our bank, seeded it with a modest amount of money, and have set up PayPal to work through that account. A credit card was not needed at any point in setting up this system and isn't needed to transfer money once it is set up.

Granted this is a bit of hassle, but it isn't outrageous. My problem earlier was that PayPal was broken - they would not complete a transaction for me due to a technical problem, so I took the check option as a second choice - but if this isn't your obstacle, then I don't see why you couldn't set up a PayPal account and subscribe to photo.net within a few days.

paypal through a seperate account sounds like that could have some advantages down the road. I didn't realize they worked that way. always thought it was cc only. Thanks for the tip, I'll be looking to do that here soon.

Thanks for all your help everybody. I appreciate it very much.
