biggerjon
Can someone tell me how top photograher by average is calculated? Is does not appear to be simply the average rating recieved by the photographer. Are there other criteria involved? Cheers Jon
bens
The top photographer by average calculation consists of the number of photographs posted times the total numerical value of ratings given, divided by the number of questions posted by the photographer about ratings in this forum. shawngibson
It's just math, and is dependant on your closeness to the North Pole (i.e., that's where elves live). http://geophysics.ou.edu/solid_earth/notes/potential/igf.htm (This is meant in humour...hope it's taken as such). James Kazan
No matter how it is calculated it is meaningless due to mate rating.
bens
I say be a mate commenter . . . liberate yourself from a concern about numbers and make some friends instead. More fun, more feedback in the end. Jeez, there's been a lot of postings about ratings lately. I gotta say (admittedly off topic, sorry Jon), like it, don't like it, the ratings system is what it is. But if you (not Jon you, but the more generic reader you) are a posting photographer looking for feedback, well, your pictures are worth a thousand words, not just some numbers. On this site, unless your work is considered extraordinarily good or the subject matter is considered fascinating (a minority that does not include me), the best solution appears to be to give in order to receive. Make constructive comments on works you find interesting of people who have a history of responding in kind. Its been a successful strategy for a lot of people. In other words, if you are frustrated by the amount of feedback on your photos, you can demand the site change, withdraw, look for other sites, etc., but in the meantime one answer remains literally at your fingertips. Find some works you find interesting and start typing.

giuseppe_miriello1
Robert gave you the right address where you also find the official photo.net explanation... but if you look closely these portfolios have been tailor-made to stick at those criterias, photographer - despite having really aestethical images there - have been forced to cut down any low rate picture, that means few variety and sometimes just 3 pictures just to be there with the minimum requirements.

Ben S. instead, omitted he is promoter of a *very* interesting initiative that allows us to exchange thoughful comments with each other... go here take a look, and hopefully you too will be joining five and enjoing exchanging the most precious thing of all: your thoughs. ._._z
Can someone tell me how top photograher by average is calculated?

I think it involves goatskins, chicken entrails and a candle-filled altar.
