chris_waller
That is good news. If they hang on in there and get customer support they may well become the major producer in b+w materials.
vatovec
Yess, yess glass plates are back! Got to get out of my closet that camera my grandpa used,..
silent1
Well, they're not back yet -- Ilford is just saying they are looking at reintroducing them. Still, if they make them in 9x12 cm, and they don't cost an arm and a leg, I might have to figure a way to develop them -- I've got two cameras that can use them in that size, just pop out the film sheaths and load up the glass... philip_glass
Ilford already is the major player in B&W materials. On my wish list is a slow speed sheet film with low reciprocity failure - something like Fuji Acros.
Aoresteen
When I read that article I sent Phil an email asking for items like 220 HP5, 70mm double perf film, and 10x15" paper. Now's the time to send him requests for products. Want Pan F sheet film, SEND him an email!
andre_noble4
I second the 220 Film request! A note regarding the PanF, word was that Ilford couldn't get the PanF emulsion to properly stick to the base material they use for sheet film.
roger_hicks1
Dear Andre, Word from whom? Not arguing, just curious. I can check with Ilford. Cheers, Roger
jim_causey
Roger, It would be cool if you could check with Ilford and report back, actually -- it would be *sweet* to have PanF in sheet film.
roger_hicks1
Dear Jim, Your word is my command! I've just spent 45 minutes talking to one of my senior Ilford contacts, and here is the Party Line. 1 Getting the film to stick to the base is not even an issue; he couldn't imagine where that one had come from. 2 The only change that would be needed is rebalancing the backing layer slightly to minimize curling (each backing layer has to be matched to the emulsion, which is fairly obvious when you think about it). 3 Sheet Pan F has never been in the line-up because all market research to date has indicated that the market is not big enough. 4 If enough people want to order it, they'll coat it -- but we aren't talking about a few boxes here, we're talking about a whole mother roll. Cutting an existing coating to different sizes is one thing. Coating a new product is another entirely. Hope this helps, Cheers, Roger (www.rogerandfrances.com)
r_hofland
I'd be REALLY happy to buy Pan F in 4x5, 5x7 and 8x10 when it comes available, especially in 5x7 since that lacks very many good choices to begin with! I also think it would sell well in VLF sizes that Ilford now puts out in its FP4+ and HP5+ lines. Indeed, I suspect most of the LF B&W world would also buy sheets of Pan F in droves! Who was doing their "market research", per chance the same guys that were ready to close them down until just a few weeks ago?
roger_hicks1
Dear RF, Not as far as I know; market research is an ongoing process over years. Which is not to say that things never change! Cheers, Roger
andre_noble4
Good to hear PanF emulsion sloughing off is just a rumour... We should probably start off by buying what they already make, lest we bankrupt Ilford again with Quixotic special requests :->
