jim_occi2
Has anyone used this lens for golf photography:AF VR Nikkor 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6D ED? I will be shooting the PGA (practice round) this August and need a long lens. Thanks- Jim
Jerry_
If you are going to be close, the camera noise may be too much, but the VR 80-400mm lens will work very well. Will it be sunny? If not, a 300mm f2.8 or a 300mm f4 lens might be better on a monopod. (The VR feature keeps the lens movement at a minimum, but it does not stop the action in low-light situations. Plus be sure to take extra, fresh batteries -- your camera body has to 'juice' the VR lens.)
jim_occi2
Thanks, Gerald. Appreciate your response. I wasn't really interested in the VR feature, it's just that it's the only 400 mm lens within reach for me at this time.
lem7
300-400mm is fine. I just got back from Augusta last week. My advice is do a lot of research on the course layout and the barrier set up. Find out where the best angles are, get in position early, and let the golfers come to you. If you know you want Tiger on the 18th tee, go there when he is on 14 or 15 and wait. jim_occi2
Thanks, Joe. Wow, Augusta, pretty cool. Unfortunately I do not have a press pass, so I will only be able to bring my camera on a practice day. Jim
