SOS to david hartman .Bought a used fe2 in good condition but the

shutter hanges up ever so often and i have to switch to m250 to

release it. i can shoot it on m250 all day and it never hangs up.I

put my md11 and md12 on and it still hangs .seems to hang less

without lens on.i even hooked up the mc-10 and the same thing.

I think it's only a question of exhausted battery. To check if it's a battery related problem, set the speed dial on A and then press half way the shutter button: if the the meter needle doesn't move your battery is exhausted. For more info on that go here:http://mir.com.my/rb/photography/hardwares/classics/nikonfeseries/fe2/basic1.htm

Anyone know if what Marco is saying is correct? My understanding was that the

camera was "off" if the film wind is closed against the body -- and that the camera

was

turned on when one cocked the film winder. I don't remember anything in the

manual about it being shut off only when on B or M250.

The FE2 meter is off when the film advance lever is pushed flush with the body; pulling it out to the first detent turns it on. M250 is a fully mechanical speed that works independently of the battery. Both the MD12 and MD11 have their own off switches, but the MD12 powers down after an interval. In any event, batteries in a properly functioning, well-used FE2 are good for a year or more.
