craig_gillette
While clearly giving an interesting new view point, is the overhead camera during games "too much?" Or is it just something new to get used to? I don't like the odd perspective you get sometimes, I think too close and too wide?
ellis_vener_photography
I talked to the inventor, Garrett Brown -- he also invented the Steadycam? -- at the Maine Photographic Workshop in 1983. He had just come up with the idea. thought it would be cool to shot to photograph a sequence a forward pass play in football from the ball's point of view. At the time he saw the problem for broadcast sports of being how do you keep the camera and cables from interfering with the game. I guess it took awhile to work the bugs out of the system. mike_hodson
I think it offers a unique point of view that can make for some great replays but I'm not used to watching the live play from that angle...so it feels weird. They don't seem to over do it which is a good thing. I've watched American coverage of hockey games where they over used the camera mounted on the glass behind the net, way too much. It was nauseating.
tim_adams
As long as it is not overdone I like it. The cameras are HD now also which makes it nice for those of us who are watching HDTV's.
