rustys pics
I just read this in the online version of British Journal of Photography:Ilford launches bid. Although some products have already been dumped, we may be able to continue getting their core films and papers. Please note that this is posted only to inform readers what the latest "official" word is on Ilford. It is not intended to start an endless war about film vs digital nor the death of film. al_divenuti
Russ, This is actually old news. UK law, incidentally, guarantees that management has a certain period (maybe 90 days?) to file a buy-out plan in the face of a closure. Total debts of 40 mil. sterling (about 70 mil. USD) don't seem high at first but it's about 170,000 USD for every employee still working there. This won't be easy. I would also like to remind folks that we have no word at all about products being dumped. Some might certainly remain unavailable in the short-term as Ilford gets back on its feet (we hope) and some may be discontinued at a later date - but there's no official word on future product availability (hell - present product availability) yet apart from an inability to find a contractor for Ilford's powder-based chemicals. And that situation could be corrected in the future.
lowell_huff1
You failed to mention the HUGE price increases that accompany this. Papers 12-15% Films 3-15% Powders 20-75% Liquids 5-65%
al_divenuti
Lowell, With the $ and silver doing what they are...well, analog photogs in the USA all better get used to it. Aside from their paper, Ilford's products have typically been cheaper than Kodak's - so they have some room to play with. Ilford will lose some customers, undoubtedly, as prices are hiked but how many remains to be seen. I expect that Forte (also, apparently resuming production according to J&C) will follow a similar path.

lex_jenkins
This thread ... http://www.photo.net/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg?msg_id=00ALq8 ... contains more useful and credible recent information about Ilford's current state than most of these other threads so I'll simply refer the curious to that thread.
