I'm having H1 Problems with 16-32 Mag!

Hey everyone.. Does anybody have problems with their film backs on the H1???

I sent my entire camera setup to Hasselblad, they upgraded the firmware and said there

was nothing else wrong with it, even though I sent them the negative from a chrome that

was shot. When I shoot vertically, apparently there is a slight blur on the bottom of the

frame (which would be the left side of the mag).. This happens ALL the time..

I called Hasselblad and told them the issue, and they blamed the assistants for not

properly loading the rear entry tight enough. So I did it myself for every roll, and low and

behold, still the same problem. Is that from a light leakage? I would have thought that it

would burn, not blur. I thought it would be the shutter because not enough light is

coming through the left side.

Please let me know what your advice is. This is embarrassing that I have to show clients

negatives with blur on the bottom.

Kory,

Return to Hasselblad, demonstrate the entire process, as performed by you, shoot some film right there and then, and let them take care of processing and evaluation.
Obviously all they did was check the equipment through, looking for off-spec values at pre-selected points mentioned in their service manual. Not actually test the thing.

Call them first and make an appointment, to make sure someone competent to handle your problem both from a handling as engineering perspective will be there to witness and inspect each step.

If you can't visit them yourself, send the equipment in again, and ask them to shoot some film and present the result to you.
This is a "lesser" option, however, since when their film shows no problem, you still do not know what's happening.

If this is not a handling problem, it obviously is one they should sort out. And you shouldn't be left explaining your clients that a part of the negatives are unusable.

If you're not dealing with them already, also inform Hasselblad Sweden (info@hasselblad.se), get their attention and support too.

I see you live in LA, do you know the Hassie rep there....? I ask because the rep here in NYC is a good guy.

Your problem doesn't sound like light leakage more like blur caused by in correct film alignment, maybe caused by the insert not sitting 100% parallel within the back. If it's not 100% level with the film plane, then by the time you reach a corner it could be off.

My H1 seems ok, however here is another idea. What lens hood are you using...? If you have it fitted incorrectly then slight vignetting in one corner could look like blur.

I had a similar cause several years ago with the bellows hood on a 500cm.
