Just for fun, let me ask you both how often you give out high ratings to the same people? Once a month? Several times a week? What limit (or self restraint) do you think is in the site's best interest?

Zafar may i clarify please. None of what i wrote above was written in "sarcasm" as you so classify. They were valid questions surrounding discussions with you, i believe. Your not on trial here and the choice is yours of course, but surely wasn't the intent...could be writing style. It surely wasn't my intention to recieve your "spam" addressed to someone else. Whatever this list is you have... remove me immediatly please.... In context of disscusion i still believe your intentions of this tsnami thing to be self servering. Thats only my view if it even matters.

 

I would percieve that attaching a sympathetic media to the presentation of a pic up for rating is actually mate rating in itself. Mate rating in the third person..... maybe the "coke" bottle was a bad analagy but your "idea" or "hope" attached to this represents an icon which has nothing to do with that pic in the sense of quality photograpy.

 

One question...Vince mentions that your image was posted for critque twice. I note you are no longer a member and allotted 1 posting every 24 hours. How is it you posted 10 mins later?

Well carl its a good question and I will have to look in mine and Vincent's ratings to see if we have some common images or we rate different groups of people. I believe it will be an interesting result.

Zafar, I meant how often you yourself give the same rating to the same person over and over again, not in comparison to Vincent or anyone else.

I have no idea Carl. When somebody visits and rates my work, I try to stop by sometime within my next image or two and offer an honest rating in return. Often I can get to it immediately. I usually only post a couple, maybe three a month. If that photographer loads ten pics during that time, then I end up rating perhaps one in ten. If they upload two, then I may just hit both. There are a few I keep an extra eye on here and there. Some I am sure fall through the cracks. Please don't analyze this too much...

Since my posting of Feb 01 above, my newer images have suddenly been hit with a barrage of 2/2 3/3 from some very obvious geographical names.

 

This strange coincidence seems to take place over the course of history on every occasion something negetive is pointed out. When something positive and advantagious is said, the same geographicialy identifyable names reap praise and high marks. Pure coincidence? Lets see what abuse thinks.

Sorry Carl for mis-understanding your question. If you read my previous comment I mentioned in detail the ratings given and ratings received both mine and Vincent's. The situation would be clear if you look at the ratings given by me and the number of members who received it. I will try to summarise by saying that on an average I have rated 2.16 Photos per member (I have rated total of 1165 PN member's work). To give you the broad variations I may have rated only one photo of some members and may have rated more than 2.16 of some members. The overall average is 2.16. Well about how often it happens depends upon how often these members upload their work. Some regularly update and some post a photo in a month. Usually it is very time consuming to look for new portfolio but I do try to look at different people's work that shows in my ratings given too.

I understand your frustration of your recent photos slaughtered by low rates ..... Paul.

 

Since you have mentioned this personal problem of "Your Low Ratings" on so many occasions and in many of your comments on these "Geographicialy Identifyable Names". You have even gone as far as writing the same to their porfolios.

 

 

Instead of asking for an answer I think you should refer to "your e-mail" you sent me in which you ....... well read it in your sent folder carefully and you will get the answer to what you have asked for in your comment above. If you can't find it I can paste here for you to read it.

 

 

Now I will bring this to you kind notice....Do you or the abuse have an answer for this.....

 

 

Just look at last three days of my ratings received pattern since my first post here. All the new loads of added rates are 2s 3s and 4s. I had many low rates but when three days back PN deleted few accounts I had almost none extremely low rates left in my ratings received as they were all deleted form the whole PN and all of us know this fact. They have been doing it for more than couple of weeks now.

 

If those accounts have been deleted and they are as they are not on my pictures any more ..... From where did this new load of low rates come from in the last three days????

 

Now can you explain this sudden change in LOW rating behaviour on my pictures which are not on TRP even (no visibility even). Why people would rate them low??

 

I think people do react to these discussions. I did not mention this in any of my previous comments because of the same reason. I did not point any geographical names doing it .... although the situation is almost similar. I think everyone has the right to think what he wants but I hope that this ends as this behaviour is not healthy for anyone of us.

You have made a very valid point with your observations, and my previous post didn't imply that you directed or advised retalitory action to take place for words spoken here in public, as i never have.

 

It might be good to raise a few points on that in public as i did in email. Being the #2 photog on PN and your country of origin puts you in high esteem of many of your countrymen. They respect you and see you as a hero leading them into the art photography leading edge on a world class level. They also associate national pride with such an accomplishment.

 

Not all see art as being objective. Some may see it as a tool to send a political message. Perhaps a threat to their own vision of recognition. They strike out and low rate based on opinion of either your, or mines, words spoken on this public forum. People also fear making truthful comments and rates due to avoidence of retrobution and its degrading the entire system here. People are calling bad art good just to avoid being beat up.

 

People choosing to punish beauty or promote ugly to beauty and exposure for the sake of self interest are here leeching of the system that we the members pay money to support. In the end they suffer far more than us. We pleasure in producing whether its seen or not....they produce nothing, BUT everybody using this system becomes their victim because whats beautiful is rated to obscurity. Art as an entity suffers failure to proceed ahead.

 

PN states that rates aren't for the members,just for the system of number promotion. Rates seem to matter to almost everybody though, especially getting low ones and for most it only serves the funtion of getting the true art exposed...may not be theirs, but they see and learn from it..... I don't buy the rate rap but even discarding any thought of "rates" the freedom of speech greatly becomes the primary issue. Now this community must word everything ambiguously to avoid upsetting anyone and having their "art" subject to attack. Not a good scenerio in the biggest democracy on the planet.

 

So endless raggin on about it,, why not just ask?

 

PN how much? How much u need to get a guy on the payroll working full time to monitor this system and address all these complaints, mate rating, low rate retrobution ? Such a job can't be expected from a volenteer, but we're certain it means enough to many to dig in and hire someone...so how much?

Till then keep prayin' that no one walks though your folders sprinkling 2s and 3s just like my folders have been in the last three days....lol

Getting true art exposed? I didn't know this was an art gallery...I guess that means 99.999999% of the folks posting on photo.net are just out of luck, because we have 2 parties that rate themselves as being better than anybody else.....Excuse me while I turn my BS filter to MAX.
