Ack! What was that ad on entering the site!

Thats interesting. What was it an ad for? What did it look like? Those type of ads are supposed to be blocked, but I see from the statistics that for some reason we get a few impressions per day of something called a "460x60 Full Page ad". This always struck me as odd, especially because 3 impressions (etc) basically the same as zero, since ads are paid for per 1000 impressions. Was it Circuit City, by an chance?

When you run ads on a website they are usually supplied via a 3rd party (such as Google or Tribalfusion) and you usually get the option to block certain types of ads from being served. For example you might ask the ad supplier never to send you any pop-up ads. Once you've done that you have to depend on the ad supplier doing what you've asked. The site typically has no direct control over what is served.

Bob - faggedaboutit.

Ryan - Spyware? No, old son, not on my machines. I kill malware on contact. The adserver fed me some bullshit, but looks like admin have fixed whatever caused it. I only wanted to bring it to their attention. Happened once, hasn't happened since. Good job to the ops.

When we got the stats for Thu/Fri, the number of Circuit City

"468x60 Full Page" had jumped up to a little over 100 impressions for the entire day, whereas normally it is around 2 or 3. 100 is still noise level. How annoying was it, actually? This type of ad seems to be paying $10 per 1000 impressions, compared to the usual rate of under a dollar. Makes me want to unblock this type of ad and try to get more of them...

Brian - I would not be pleased at all to see it again. Honestly, I would rather pay a nominal subscription fee to PNet, per month, thant to endure such an ad. I can handle the sidebar ads, embedded banners, etc. But when I click my bookmark to come to photo.net, I do NOT want to be force-fed such an ad as the one I encountered which requires me to endure the advertisement, else CLICK HERE TO SKIP THIS AD. As a former web designer, such marketing denigrates the hosting site and as a viewer I find them far more annoying than the most offending Flash site.
