john_liu5
Hi everyone. I'm researching a possible Nikon purchase. One of the things I'd like to learn about is the AF Teleconverter TC-16A, which supposedly allows an autofocus Nikon body to autofocus some manual focus Nikon lenses. Does anyone have comments on how well this works in practice? One combination I'm thinking of is F4 + MF 85mm f1.4 +TC16A.
bob dubois
Hi John, The TC-16A has excellent optical quality. It allows auto-focus within a limited range. You manually achieve course focus and the TC-16A will allow the camera's AF system to finish the job. It's really less cumbersome in use than it sounds and works just fine. I used it with good results on an N8008s and an F-100 with a 135mm f:2.8 and a 300mm f:4. Regards, Bob
eskoi.pohjanpalo
I've used TC-16A in F5 with lenses MF105/1.8 and MF180/2.8. The focusing is fast enough, almost the same as in DC AF135/2. The mechanism makes more noice, not too much disturbing. In low light situations the same difficulty as AF in general due to the loss of contrast.Good value for the money I paid in secondhand.
