Your favorite shoot?

My favorite shoots are usually the projects i put together myself; unpaid. Most paying

clients that i have always want the same boring standard "junk"... "I want a studio shoot,

plain white background with a hair/make-up person," they say. I've done this so many

times i just go on automatic pilot.

I try to get more creative with the lighting since there's not much i can do with a plain

background.

My favorit subjects to work with are actors. They tend to be very comfortable in front of

the camera immediatly and play wonderful characters.

My dream shoot is to have full creative control :D

This is a good question. My favorite times are when I photograph an event where people are happy, involved in something, and are just being themselves. Besides my family there are school, church or community events, our kids' sports, my scout troop.

One of the most rewarding projects was a photo story of the local Challenger Baseball league that I did this summer . Both the team families and the sponsors were really moved, and I learned so much. It was the first true project I'd done. I asked to do it, spent a lot of time at it, fell in love with it, and it came out very well. It tested all of my skills, but especially the people skills, and drove home many lessons. It changed me. I've jumped in the water so to speak: shed the shyness, joined in with the people who were my subject, formed new relationships and a new outlook on the role of photographer. They touched me, and my images touched them, and we made the world a little smaller.

I have taken thousands and thousands of photos over the years and I don't even hesitate to say that my favorite is one I took of my father, standing on a dock with the early morning mist rising over the lake in the background. It has a few flaws technique wise, but it is perfect as far as I am concerned.

Tough to choose just one, and the one I'd pick was actually working with a particular model at a workshop over a few days. When I first saw her, I immediately thought, "Who's SHE?!?" Took about two minutes before I had found out her name and told her to come with me. It was her first time print modeling, but the lack of experience didn't seem to hurt much.

Over the next couple of days, it was great fun watching her confidence build. By the third (last) day of the workshop, I was joking with her about what had she done with that shy, quiet girl I'd met a few days before.

I love to hear all the stories and pictures, especially Mike's. (she's great) :)

So many times I find that I enjoy talking about the technical aspect of photography and picking the brain of someone who has been doing it for a long time. But I really love hearing the stories behind the pictures. How you had to climb that huge hill to get that shot of the valley at night. We all love photography and I just think that it's great for us to get together sometimes and express that love. The lessons we learn and the relationships that we build. Today is my birthday and I got a new Nikon N80 as my present, complete with a 28-80mm and a 70-300mm. Does this ever get old?

I can't see how it ever could. Sometimes I think of it as a bunch of fisherman sitting around telling fishing stories.

Just thought I'd share my love of photography moment with you guys. Thanks for listening.
