Table top tripod legs and ball head for under $85

Ok, the Leica table top is great but it's TOO MUCH MONEY :-) !

What's the next closest thing? I'm consdiering either the Gittos or

Manafratto ball heads that can support around 8 pounds (both around

$35 from B&H). Are the manafratto legs 3007 any good? Any others?

Your suggestions would be great. This will be used for my DSLR and TLR.

thanks,

Probably your best bet to save money would be the $35 Bogen/Manfrotto

709 Digi Tabletop Tripod with Ballhead that comes in black and silver and supports 4.5 lbs. Bogen tabletop stuff is always nicely executed with well-machined metal pieces:

The Giottos is functional and less money, but is not as pleasing as Bogen's offering:

The Manfrotto 3007 system is excellent! I recommend the following:

Manfrotto 3007 Tabletop Tripod Legs - USD14.95
Manfrotto 3007X Extension for Table Top Tripod - USD17.95
Slik SBH-120 Compact Ballhead - USD29.95

All recent prices from BH Photo in NYC. The Slik SBH-120 ballhead supports 4.5 lbs and has panning rotation.

Jeff,

I have a pair of the Manfrotto 3007 with their ball head which works fine for any of my

digicams, and with the 10D presuming I'm using one of the smaller lenses (20-100mm). A

better head would be nice as the mini ballhead is probably the limiting factor.

I also use it to support flash units and lights. Should work fine for your TLR, particularly if

it's an f/3.5 model (the f/2.8s get kinda heavy).
