They're looking primarily for recyclable containers, but haul away all kinds of stuff and resell it to augment their incomes. It's work done mostly, but not exclusively, by addicts who are usually also getting social assistance. A local saint started a recycling center in the heart of skid-row to process the reclaimed containers and that project is hugely successful . A bunch of jobs were created for people who'd formerly been out on the street in active addiction and binners now have somewhere to bring recyclables seven days a week.
