andrew robertson
Who gives a crap? Seriously, a black digital Rebel is about as exciting as a snail race.
steve_dunn2
I'm also puzzled why it seems that most of the discussion of the Digital Rebel lately has nothing whatsoever to do with photography. It's all about whether the exterior is black or silver.

I suppose I should be thankful for a break in the neverending series of questions about whether an EZ-series flash will work with it ...

It's a camera, folks. Not a fashion accessory. Take pictures with it. The black and silver ones both take exactly the same picture.
andrew robertson
Cue the whining about how the silver Rebel looks like an amateur camera, about how it attracts less attention, about how it attracts more attention, about how the black camera scares people, about how the silver camera looks cheap, about how the black camera looks more professional, etc. If you obsess about your camera's COLOR that much, you either need to get out and shoot more pictures, or go over to the Leica forum! marcin harla
The black and silver ones both take exactly the same picture.
And yet some people are going to spend $200 more just to get the black one. Amazing
phule
RN, this isn't directed toward you, this is directed to those that have responsded with hostility: If you don't care about the color, why are you commenting on it? Cars come in hundreds of colors. They all get from A to B the same way but you're not on the streets wringing your hands about /that/. Yet when someone expresses an interest in a camera being a different color, people get all pissy. If you don't care, then don't bother. The market obviously does care. harman_bajwa
I guess they (Canon) found enough su***rs willing for the Black Drebel, that they had a good laugh and decided to stretch it a little further to see what limits people will go to ... - Harman
tri_tran3
If I work for Canon, I would design a spray on kit for the DRebel and sell it for $100. It comes with seven colors, plus black of course. Or better yet sell the housing of any Canon camera model for the DRebel, maybe charge people $200 each kit. You guys think I'll have a market for it? rick_helmke
Apparently no one here has ever looked at the cell phone accessory market. Canon certainly has. Rick H.
Spearhead
When Canon can make the Digital Rebel look like a noodle package, like a cellphone cover I used to have, I'm there. Until then, it's just black and silver, and hardly like what's going on in the cellphone biz. Music and Portraits Blog: Life in Portugal
marcin harla
Nothing wrong with wanting to have a different color assuming the price is the same.

absinthe
Color is good... I likes color. Wish cameras came in hot pink or lime green. But I am not willing to pay extra for it. Unless its hammertone :-)

bobatkins
You guys don't get it. For 1/2 the camera owners on the planet (and maybe 90% of Leica owners....:) it's not about photography, it's about style and (dare I say) image. That's the photographer's image, not the image the camera takes. Canon already make multiple versions of some digicams in a variety of colors. Since the Rebel is the next step up from a digicam and appeals to some of the same market, why not make them in red, blue, green and yellow. It's not about photography, it's about selling cameras, and if people want to pay more for black (or leopard skin) cameras, Canon should be happy to oblige them and take their money. It's smart marketing. If they planned this, someone should get a bonus! If it's an accident, I'm sure they're taking notes.

claudia__
yeah, they are. and if you explore her site you can see that she sells some. also if you have a camera you want to undergo "galification" she does that too. so maybe you don't need that custom color D camera after all ;)
chip l.
Based on some of the comments, what was so wrong about comparing it to those that on Leica Forum that talk about silver and black bodies? It does show that there are people that the color of teh body matters both for "photographic" and for "looks". For some, they would know that I subscribe to "tools" for a purpose. this whole silver vs. black body seems to rank with the Leica people IMO.
