suman
I need a 28-80 zoom that can fit into my budget of 200 bucks at most, so no 17-40 or 16-35 L. Suggest me a different one that can work with the d60 within this range. Is the modded 18-55 EF-S works with D60?
tom_burke3
How about a s/h 24-85? That extra 4mm at the wide end is really valuable on a D60.
edward_h
The 24-85 is a good idea. If you want f2.8 and extra sharpness, the Tamron 28-75 has had a lot of good things said about it. Other than that? I dunno, the Sigma 24-60 or 24-70 or whatever could be worth a try. If you want wide angle, try the Sigma 18-50/2.8. I played with it for about two hours today and it looks GOOD! Plenty of fun!

Greg M
If you're going to get a 28-80, look for this lens second hand: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=3842477488&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT This is the first 28-80 Canon built and it is superior to all others. Better build quality, true ring USM for silent operation & it is a better optical performer. They also can be hard to find today.
lotsawa
Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems Suman needs a 28-80 equivalent ... It should be possible to modify the EF-S 18-55 so it fits on the 60D (or on any other EOS body), maybe you'll find a manual how to do that by looking around here or elsewhere in the net. I've seen some postings about that.
johnlund
Christof is referring to the hacksaw hack.
andrew robertson
MMMM, for $200 I wouldn't expect that great of a lens. Maybe you should start with a 50mm f/1.8.
suman
Yeah..i am, looking for an 28-x equivalent. I shot a lot of landscape things so I need it.
casey mcallister
Suman: IMHO, follow the advice of getting primes. Barrel distortion of zooms will really hindor your efforts for Landscape work. At $70 the 50f1.8 is must have!
suman
but, a 50mm will be a 80mm lens in d60. So any options for wide angle? currently I only have a 100mm macro and 100-300 f5.6 L.
phyrpowr
Tamron or Tokina 19-35, good little lens, in the budget, gives nearly 28mm equivalent
rick_helmke
The Tokina 19-35 is a super lens, probably the best bang for the buck in its price range. Very sharp, good color and contrast. It's not an L but for $150 or so it is an excellent unit. Rick H.
fxdonny
Suman, Quality aside, I would prefer the modded 18-55 EFS lens. That focal length is my strong preference on my 10D (though I use 17-40mm). 24mm is not wide enough for my DSLR. Looking at Bob's review, the 18-55 is not bad. yakim_peled1
I'd - personally - refrain from putting bad (AKA cheap...) lenses on a fine camera like the D60. You'd simply castrate it's abilities. Naturally, YMMV.

Happy shooting,
Yakim.
