Zoom-Nikkor power consumption

How does the power consumption of an AF-S lens compare to that of a

traditional AF motor in the body? How much power (if any) does one

save using RF or IF?

Don't know, but I'm interested in an F6 body and the Nikon specs for battery life using such lenses on an F6 looks pretty scary.

I'd like to know the answer to this also. However, the battery consumption isn't really scary. A couple of weeks ago I shot a performance and made about 600 images with a D100 and a single battery (of course I had a spare). I used only AF-S lenses and didn't chimp much.

 

The performance was modern dance. The focusing was constant, but short throw (30' to infinity). I'm pretty happy with that kind of battery performance.

Power consumption depends on how much you point your AF lens at different subjects and auto focus, with or without actually taking images. If you are using Lithium ion batteris such as EN-EL3 (D100, D70) or EN-EL4 (D2, F6), they last a long time after being fully charged. I wouldn't be too concerned about battery consumption.

According to Julian from Nikon Support, AF-S does use more power than conventional AF, but not significantly so, a few rolls of film less per set of batteries.
