Looking for color infrared in 120 film

I have ordered new yellow filters last week and now I discover that

the man who was cutting 70mm film to 120 film is not offering this

service anymore. Do someone know if there are still color infrared

120 film available somewhere?

where I can read in big print: "Sorry, we are no longer offering this film".

I wonder if the reason for discontinueing color IR film is the problem of rendering accurate colors in the final print ;-). Sorry, I could not resist.

I believe the film in question was cut down from 70mm aero film; looking thru the latest B&H list of Kodak 70mm film, color IR is not available. 70mm B&W IR film is still available, but since maco sells 120 B&W IR film, the demand for the cut-down 70mm may have vanished.

The Kodak infrared aerochrome 1443 film (70mm) is still available for $291.95, but I have to wait for 4 to 6 weeks for.

 

This same film is also available from Kodak in 9.5" wide x 100 and 200 feet long.

FWIW, a film slitter to cut down 70mm to 120 size can be built for about $50-75 in materials by someone with a good woodworking shop (I got the husband of one of the people in my office to build me one). Basically it is a 70mm wide trough with a sliding cutting block.

 

Of course, unless you shoot or sell alot, one of the long rolls of 70mm aero film lasts a VERY long time, which may be why Rolland quit doing it (assuming that is who you had checked with).

100 feets (30.48 meters) of 70mm film gives about 38 rolls of 120 film (if one film is 80cm long). The expiry day of color IR film is short, so if there is only a few sold, the remaining of the film will soon be wasted (before the next summer). I think this is the reason why this service is no longer offered. Perhaps an order of more than 30 rolls, or all 38 rolls, will still be possible but in this case it may be less expensive and preferable to use 70mm film in 70mm back.

My most recent experience ordering Aerochrome III 1443 in 70mm is that Kodak is no longer breaking up case lots for sale. My dealer in Anchorage Alaska (who could get it at a little better price than B&H last year) was told that the minimum order was 36 rolls ($8000+). I checked online with B&H and all of their Kodak 70mm IR film is NOT listed. This really puts a crimp in my ability to do the work I need to. I generally use 1-3 rolls/year of the 70mm for archaeological survey, but now that the film is not readily avialable, looks like that aspect of my business has gone the way of the buffalo. Damn the digital revolution! Seriously, if anyone out there has any Aerochrome III 1443 in 70mm, I'd gladly buy a roll (or two). Anyone want to join forces and order a case?

The reason for discontinuing 120 color film is that the volume was too low and the when the minimum order went up to 36 rolls (I was told it will be lowered to 18, but can't confirm this yet) I had to stop selling it. The minimum order for B&W 2424 film is 18 rolls and I will be ordering some soon. If you are interested in either color or B&W, write to me at david@davidromano.com. I can't make any promises about ordering color, but send in your requests anyway.

 

Here are some other details. After receiving everyone's payment of and shipping addresses, I will place the order and Kodak will ship your film directly to you. US orders only. International orders may have an additional shipping fee because I think I would have to ship it rather than Kodak. The best way to pay will be Paypal. Money order or AMEX travelers checks also work. I think you misunderstood, I'm not doing 120 color IR anymore. If enough people are interested in buying 18 rolls of 70mm color or B&W IR, I will coordinate the purchase.

Color Infrared film are also available in 9 1/2" wide x 100ft and 200ft long roll. Do somebody know the minimum order of these rolls? (I am thinking about cutting them into 4x5 sheets).
