NASCAR Photography

I have viewed a good many photo's here over the past couple of

years. I have rarely, if ever, seen a photo of a stock car race.

Especially with the growing popularity of NASCAR, you'd think we'd

have more uploads of track shots, behind the scenes, pit shots, fan

moments, etc.

Where are the NASCAR photographers?

I find it hard to believe there is not one photo.net member among all of those fans at each of those tracks.

I regret not asking for my NASCAR photo's years ago when I became divorced. I created some pretty nice memories. I see there is a need to step up to the plate.

TC - I don't shoot NASCAR as I'm a UK-based motorsports photographer, but I do cover a series called Days of Thunder which is essentially the European version of Nextel Cup. Our cars, which are modified ASA machines built by Howe Racing Enterprises, run on the 1.5 mile speedway at Rockingham near Corby and regularly draw in crowds of 30,000+.

I have a fair selection of my DoT work in my portfolio here on photo.net, and there's plenty more on my website (www.post14.f9.co.uk) if you are interested.

Please feel free to e-mail me if you've any questions / opinions. :-)

Witolda,

Excellent gallery! Your coverage goes above and beyond! There is one crash you show of the no. 8 car that is excellent in detail. Another of a driver being helped from his car by a trackside resue worker? and so many more action shots with vivid side by side racing which reflects some reality check on the banking at these races. There are a few shots which allow us to see the driver as if he was a few feet away. I think I could see the whites of their eyes.

Thanks for offering your gallery for viewing. I hope you are able to cover the Nextel Cup series on occasion. I know I've sparked an interest in the European series now thanks to you. I will study up and throw one out at you every now and then in the future if you don't mind. I love stock car racing and any other racing as well.

IMHO the perfect person answered your post. Witty is the most frequent contributor and best stock car racing photographer on photo.net. As for the dearth of others posting images from Nextel or Busch Cup races there are posts from time to time in the Sports Photography critique section of through-the-fence or pit shots. While I've never shot NASCAR I have shot at Daytona for a vintage racing event and did try to shoot from the stands. The security staff at Daytona was perfectly courteous and professional, but also very firm that they would not allow me to shoot from along the fence line. Fear of injury was their primary concern. As I had media credentials for that event I'd imagine the situation is even harder at typical NASCAR or Busch events. There's a discussion thread on www.sportsshooter.com that may also be of interest to you:

Access to places where you can get good photos is strictly limited. As someone mentioned you are not allowed to stand near the catch fences. Access to the pits is limited on race days. The infield fence is so far back from the track you need a really big telephoto 300mm minimum.

I like racing but prefer sprint car racing. I have many photos of sprint cars. <img src="http://www.michaelkocher.com/photo/04_WllmsGrv/04_WllmsGrv7m_12_88h.jpg" width="810" height="528" alt="Pa Posse 410 Sprint Cars" border="0">

Very nice shot! I use to love watching Sprint cars races. Wolfgang was my favorite driver to watch. Then, he was involved in an accident and suffered some serious burns and I didn't watch so much. Not sure why. I still love the cars and the dirt track racing.
