ott_luuk
The Life-size converter is dedicated to the 50/2.5 macro lens and is not supposed to work on other lenses. I was told that it wouldn?t fit on other lenses at all, it might be physically incompatible. Haven?t tryed myself. I do have the 50/2.5 but not the converter. phule
This optional accessory is designed to work strictly with the EF 50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro lens.
http://consumer.usa.canon.com/ir/controller?act=ModelDetailAct&fcategoryid=155&modelid=8121
johnlund
I don't know the precise magnification or maximum distance, but PN member Robin Sibson has been kind enough to post considerable hard-to-find and unpublished information regarding the LSC in his posts, including here, which notes that the LSC is physically compatible with other lenses. (Robin, if you read this, please consider consolidating your posts into a little LSC FAQ.)
camilla
I use my LSC with other lenses, and it works just fine. I've tested with 50/1.8, 50/1.4, 85/1.8 and the 100/2.8 USM. I even put it on my Tamron 28-75/2.8 once. I don't know the exact magnification, but things get a lot bigger :) Also, sharpness has been fine, at least from my judgement, with all the lenses I mentioned. gaius1
I'm not sure why you'd want to, the 100mm f/2.8 is 1:1 anyway (i.e. it is already life-size).
rokkor fan
The reason why you would use it is that it will enable you to achieve greater than 1:1 magnification. :o) Given it is a combination of a 8.3mm extension tube and a 1.4x extender, you get the increased working distance of a 140mm, together with greater magnification. jon_austin
So, since I already have the 50mm macro lens and the 1.4x II TC, can I simply buy an extension tube and mount these components in the proper order to achieve a 1:1 macro lens? If so, which Canon extension tube would work? The protrusion of the front element of the 1.4x II TC would be an issue if the tube isn't deep/long enough.
