brad_w
I'd like to make some simple slideshows, downloadable from a website or viewable from a CD. I can't seem to find cheap software that will do exactly what I want, though a few things come close. Here are my criteria: 1. Full Screenview (no menus, no visible desktop) 2. No music, 5-15 images. 3. Platform indpendent (ie. something that can be downloaded from a website to any PC or Mac and easily viewed). Essentially what I'd like is a file that will play anywhere and that looks like an iPhoto or PhotoMechanic slideshow. I know I can export iPhoto to a Quicktime move, but that's quite platform-dependent. The closest thing I've found is a PDF slideshow, but that's pretty idiosyncratic in how it deals with full-screen views and page magnification. I've found a slew of slideshow programs but they are all Windows-only - I am Mac-based. I imagine there's got to be a way to do this cheaply and easily. I just can't seem to find it....Can anyone help me out? Thanks, brad
phule
Maybe you're looking at something Flash-based? I think you can even include the plugins on the CD to install automagically... No clue on cheap software for producing Flash animations though, sorry.

digitmstr
ACDsee works well and it's fast. I don't know if they have a MAC version.
digitmstr
Sorry, I missed the WEB part :) For web display and CD playback you'll need something in FLASH I would think. A flash player is readily available in all PC/MACs and uses a standard engine so, you are insured compatibility. Slideshows in FLASH are simple to program, unlike animations :)
mendel_leisk
Another vote for ACDSee. I see on their download page they have a mac version. No experience with it, tho. Ed Hamrick (Vuescan) has something too, I think for sending self contained slide shows to people, no software for them to install. No experience with that either. If you need a half-decent viewer/sorter/converter/resizer anyway: ACDSee.
paul -
Here's the link for the VueSlide program, but it isn't quite full screen and I have only used it on Windows systems. The nice thing is it is free and may be distributed.<p><a href="http://www.hamrick.com/arc.html">http://www.hamrick.com/arc.html</a>
rogan
Hate to say it but M$'s powerpoint may do the trick. Its portable across all platforms. If you don't have or use M$ Office, then a PP reader can be downloaded from the M$ web site - its free. PP can be converted to HTML and used on the web etc. It can also be ported to a CD-ROM. It has all the fancy transitioning effects you looking for. Titling and captioning is straight forward. Music can be added to the show. And, its easy to use. What more can I say? rogan
PS - forgot to add - it does full screen and timing can be adjusted to your heart's content or you can use a mouse or keyboard to drive the show. Some of the easiest solutions aren't always the most obvious. IMHO is the one of them - as in an easy solution.
greg_miller3
Check out xat.com for freewre that should do the trick.
peter_breis
PhotoPresenter, is one sexy little Mama! Not only is it dazzling to look at and simple to use, but dead cheap. The transition effects are exactly what a photographer would want. It produces QuickTime movies so is readily portable and web ready. It demonstrates the best of Mac OSX Core technology.
