SB28 fill and regular flash

I just bought a SB28 for my N90s and read the manual but found it

unhelpful. I want to use the flash to do two things:

1. Take normal flash for indoor shots.

2. Use as a fill flash for outdoor shots.

My questions are:

1. How does one switch between these two modes (fill/non fill)?

2. Does method of metering on the camera effect how the flash reacts?

For example if I do a spot meter on someone's face as opposed using

matrix.

3. How does camera aperture/shutter mode effect the flash? For

example full auto vs aperture priority vs manual. On full auto does

the camera or flash smart enough to limit to max sync speed?

4. When I set the flash to fill if i turn it off or it automatically

turns off does it reset to a default mode? Do you recommend disabling

power saving mode?

When the SB28 is in the "A" mode, the flash unit will judge correct exposure by using its OWN built-in sensor.

In the other TTL mode the camera will judge correct exposure and control flash output by reading light from the film plane. This is the basis of TTL OTF flash modes.

Your SB28 will still achieve correct flash exposure on non-TTL cameras by using this "A" mode.

Hop this helps.

Thanks dave. I shot primarly in TTL Fill and TTL so I'll just wait to get the film results back. I think what got me confused was the manual goes into all these different scenarious based on camera and lens you're using. The manual would have been more useful if it described under what circumstance the setting that should be used instead of listing all the bells and whistles it offers.
